# 1JM Buddies- Scavenger Hunt

IJM met with their buddies yesterday to do a special Easter scavenger hunt. Our buddies placed clues around the school and helped the year 1’s to read and follow the instructions to find the treasure which was back in the classroom. Each child got 1 chocolate egg as a surprise and then did some craft with their buddies. Here are some photos of the hunt.

# Math Investigations

Todays math investigations was about numbers 1-100. We had number grids, number lines, number cards, missing numbers, numbers before and after and so on.

• Making their own number lines as high as they can go.
• Ordering number card sets- 1-100, 1-10 and 1-25 in order.
• Writing the missing numbers in number collections.
• Writing the numbers before and after within jumbled numbers.
• Locating numbers on a 100 grid.
• Using their number lines to locate numbers.

We want the children to feel confident in finding numbers along a number line and start to see the patterns we have been learning about number over the last few weeks. The children worked both independently, in pairs and small groups to show their learning.

# 1MR Buddy Afternoon

Today we spent the afternoon with our buddies. The task for the students  was to create a basket using a cube template to hold an egg. This task was lots of fun and also posed many challenges for the students. Mr Elder and I were so proud of the students as they has many problems to solve, they worked collaboratively, persisted and were very creative.

# Hot Cross Buns

Todays nursery rhyme was Hot Cross Buns. We read and sung the nursery rhyme as a group together.

The children had to write the sentence- The hot bun. – independently. They had to think of the letters that they know. They then had to write – I will give it to my mum.- We wanted to use these sentences as lots of the words are sight words and should be words that the children can write them self.

After they completed the two sentences the children were able to write other things about a hot cross bun.

# Holy Week Provocations

This afternoon we had our Holy Week Provocations. Our provocations were based on the Easter Story and were a great way for the children to consolidate their knowledge of the Easter story in a hands on way.

• The Last Supper- home corner materials to set up and reenact the last supper.
• Palm Sunday- make their own palms by tracing their hands to make leaves with green paper and popsticks.
• The Easter Story- Make a story map of the whole story.
• Jesus in the Tomb- Make a lift the flap art work with black texta and crayon. The children had to show Jesus wrapped up in the tomb.
• Jesus on the Cross- The children used black pen and white paper to draw Jesus on the cross.
• Jesus being arrested- In the log area the children were able to reenact the story using the loose parts and the logs to represent the olive trees.

Here is the children engaging with their provocations:

# Writers Workshop

Today we had writer’s workshop. 1JM wrote stories about the Easter Bunny.

# Easter Story

Today we explored the Easter Story. We used this video to open dialogue with the children about the story of Easter and what happened. We stopped the story and had discussions about each event of Easter.

We reflected as a class and recalled the information in the story. The children then reflected in their black books about how Jesus gave his life for us.

# Math Focus- Skip Counting

Today we continued to consolidate our learning about number patterns and skip counting.

1JM focused on counting by 10’s as a group. We started with one children and they have to begin with 10 and then each consecutive child had to say what the next number in the pattern would be. We worked as a team to help each other out and complete the number pattern.

1MR

We consolidated counting by 2,  5,  and 10. The children worked collaboratively sharing their knowledge to create groups of 2,5 and 10. Then we played a quick game of number before and after. I tried to trick the children but they were too clever. This is a game you can play at home or in the car.
