Magnificent Monday

What a beautiful day!

Today we spent the morning exploring the idea of friendship from our class text Charlotte’s Web

We discussed the characteristics of Wilbur’s friends Fern and Charlotte.

Ayrton: I’d rather be friends with Wilbur as he is friendly but playful as well

Charlie: I would rather be Charlotte friends because I have all ways wanted a pet spider that code talk

It cold tell me when it is hungry or other tings and I will have a lot of fun with it.

Helen: I would rather pick Wilbur because he is kind and if I was with Charlotte I might have stepped on her but Wilbur is big enough and more playful because Charlotte is always busy working on her web or doing something else.

Kayla R : Both charlotte and Wilbur are good friends for different reasons. Like charlotte could save me from someone killing me if a was charlottes friend. I could be Wilbur’s friend and always have someone to talk to. It was a hard decision but I know what happens in the end so…I would rather be friends with Wilbur because I’m scared of spiders and if I was friends with Charlotte my parents would probably want kill her just because she is a spider. Also, I did not pick charlotte because spiders die after having babies so, that would mean that Wilbur would live longer to be my best friend. I think Wilbur would be a good friend to me because, he cares not only about himself but he also cares for Charlotte and Fern. I also think that if a get sad about my dad when he goes back to hospital for a few days just like he did last night Wilbur would be there with me the whole time to keep me happy.

Meitraeyi : I would chose Wilbur because charlotte will die early if you step on her .when spider have to many babies she might die.The reason i chose Wilbur is because he is very playful and charlotte is a adult and adult don’t really play. Wilbur is Awsome at backflips and very active .

Isaiah: I would rather be friends with Wilbur because Wilbur looks cute and Charlotte is a spider and I hate spiders and Wilbur is the nicest one in the book, he is the nicest animal on the farm and Charlotte is kinda bossy. Wilbur cares about everyone in the book but Charlotte kinda cares about everyone but that much.

Jed:I would be frees wife wilber because he live longer and he can wile and I like him And his proslate.and he is a pig and I like a pigs

Nhu:I like Wilbur because

  •   He is Humble
  • He is Cute
  • He is Radiant
  • He is Unique

Ruby: I would rather be charlottes friend because she loves everyone, she is caring and she would help anyone who needs help even if she didn’t want to she would still do it.

Sukhman:I rather be friends with Charlotte because she is kind and she helped Wilbur from dieingand and she is brave to Save Wilbur and she smart And clever.

Writer’s Workshop:

Today for writer’s workshop we got onto the topic of fairy tales. It seems we have a lot of students interested in exploring fairy tales and perhaps writing some of their own fairy tales. For now we are finishing the texts we have already started.

Numeracy: We are commencing our investigations on Money this week. To start off we were given he task of telling the teachers everything we already knew about money!

Singing Practice:

This afternoon we joined the rest of the school in the hall for singing practice. We have a whole school mass on Thursday at 1130 to celebrate the feast day of Mary McKillop. Parents are welcome to join us.

Have a great week.

Tuesday

Hello !

Yesterday we welcomed a new student into 4HA. Welcome Adeng.

This morning we started our day with something different. The teachers are collecting some data about student achievement in literacy and numeracy by using an online assessment called PAT testing. Today was the children’s first experience with this and they did a fantastic job.

We have encouraged them to slow down a little as they work through the assessments to ensure they are giving each question the attention it requires. The data from these assessments will assist us with developing our learning programs and inform our teaching in the future.

Literacy:

Today we continued reading Charlotte’s web. As part of our reading we are examining some of the new vocabulary we are hearing in the text.

Yesterday we looked at the words

  • monotonous
  • forsake
  • distinguish

Numeracy:

Today we continued our fraction investigations. It was great to see the children challenging themselves to explore some of the more complex fraction concepts.

Have a great day !

Week 2

Hello all,

Our apologies for the delay between posts.

We have started the term off with a very busy schedule.

Literacy:

This term we continue our book study on Charlotte’s Web. The children have been busy getting to know the characters and exploring the themes in the book.

Writer’s workshop:

In Week One many of the children submitted an entry for the Salisbury Short Story competition. Those that did not enter still worked hard on a short story based on their own choice of topic.

It is wonderful to see the children working on a range of text types during these workshops.

Numeracy:

This term we are continuing our Fraction investigations.

We have been working hard on the following concepts:

  • halves, thirds and quarters
  • Fractions on a number line
  • Comparing fractions
  • Fractions of a collection
  • Fraction notation

Religion:

This term we will be completing our focus on the Sacraments in the Catholic Church. Soon we will be commencing an investigation into the liturgical calendar.

Year 4’s are busy preparing for the RELAT test later in the term

Have a great week.

Outside Classroom Day

Today we celebrated Outside Classroom Day with our buddies.

We went to Grevillea Park first then we sat and ate our lunch together.

Just a reminder tomorrow is casual day for a soup  can donation. If you don’t have a can of soup any canned tomato, legume or vegetables  that can be used to make soup will be gratefully accepted.

Play Based Investigations

Today we enjoyed investigations. We used our 100 languages to help our learning.

Neisha and Chelsea set up free medical clinic. Ms Angilletta was given a flu shot. “I was worried it would hurt but Dr Chelsea said it would feel like a pin prick and to just think of happy things. It worked it didn’t hurt.”

Ayrton and Jefferey made a Space station.” It was on the moon and would travel to other planets. “said Ayrton.

Alex and Jed built a house on a deserted Island. “They got all the building things from the city and brought it there” said Jed.

Meitraeyi, Athou and Magot constructed a Pet House

Some students created joke books, played board games and even engaged in drawing tutorials

Mason  and Abhinarv engaged in a drawing tutorial and drew coloured and cut out  an Iron Man.

Everyone was collaborating using creativity and  resilience and there were many exciting learning conversations.

What a wonderful example of Student Agency at work.

WOW what an awesome learning experience.

REMINDER: Sports Day next Friday 10th May

Normal school day start 8.50

Sports day commences 9.00am on the oval

Hope to see you there!

Holy Thursday

Today we celebrated Holy Thursday.

Firstly we were The Friends of Jesus and celebrated The Last Supper.

We set the table and then we shared the meal just like Jesus did with his Friends!

After Lunch we performed The Last Supper for the school.

Making BookMarks

This morning after Come read with me we discovered we had a need for bookmarks so we could remember where we finished reading our book. This displayed Student Agency at work. The students realised they had a need and decided to come up with a solution.

So we used our creativity to design our personal book marks.

The Man with Small Hair

Today in library we shared this text together:

The man with small hair loves his small hair. He also loves his short pants, zing-a-ding boots and clickety-clackety beads. He cartwheels with joy and bursts into song when he wears them. But the man with small hair is the only person who wears his hair small, and no one else has colourful boots or musical beads either. He decides to hide the things that make him happy in order to blend in with the crowd. Until one day he looks in the mirror and doesn’t recognise the man staring back at him.

The Man with Small Hair is an uplifting story about self-confidence, bravery and dancing to the beat of your own drum.

Reflections:

Jai : Don’t change for other people, just be yourself as they might just be jealous.

Charlie: Don’t let people judge you by what you are wearing

Ruby: You can be different to other people

Kayla S: You don’t have to be like everyone else, just be yourself

Lucas: Doesn’t matter what others say , you can be whoever you want

Amelia: Everybody is different and that is ok

Stacey: No one has to be the same, just have confidence

Leah: It’s boring to be like everyone else

Melody: Just be yourself

Bella: just keep being yourself

Harsimrat: Be brave enough to be different

Athou: You will feel happy when you are yourself

Stefan: Just be yourself

Abbey: When you are trying to be like  someone else you are not really yourself
