Friday 29th June (Term 2, Week 9) CATHOLIC IDENTITY DAY

Welcome to Catholic Identity Day. Today we explored all the wonderful aspects of our Catholic Identity here at Holy Family Catholic School. In 4RG our day had three focuses stemming from our schools pillars:

PEDAGOGY/ECOLOGY/CATHOLIC IDENTITY

We used our values of SHARING/POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS/SUPPORT to celebrate the things that make us a Catholic Community.

Our day started with a Welcome Circle, acknowledging our owners of the land;

‘We would like to Acknowledge that the land we meet on today is the traditional lands for the Kaurna people and that we respect their spiritual relationship with their Country. We also acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional custodians of the Adelaide region and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to the living Kaurna people today.’

Using our diverse languages, we greeted each other with a high 5! Please watch our video….

Focus One: Catholic Identity & Focus Three: Pedagogy

After sharing the story ‘The Good Samaritan’, written by Andrew McDonough, children shared their ideas and understanding in small groups. They used their 100 languages to interpret the story, thinking about how kindness was shown through this parable.

This led us to our own ‘Acts of Kindness‘ activity for today. Children have been given a number of ‘Acts of Kindness’ to complete during the day. They have added two of their own and will aim to act on them during the day, in hopes to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and make someones day, also, filling up their buckets in return. ‘When you feel good, you do good things‘.

After reading ‘Who is God’, written by Kathleen Ruckman, children illustrated their Image of God and shared them with one another.

Focus Two: Ecology & Focus Three: Pedagogy

As Catholics, we have been asked to look after our environment, so today the children in 4RG planted some seedlings, made a bird feeder, created a herb wall with the support of 6/7MH and 5/6ND.

Focus Three Unpacked: Pedagogy

Pedagogy describes the teaching and learning interaction. Today and everyday, we reflect on our pedagogy in all that we do across the subject areas. You can find many examples of our pedagogy here in 4RG when looking at our day today (and all other days). Children have engaged, celebrated, shared, supported and continued to build positive relationships with one another. Today has been a celebration of, not only our Catholic Identity, but of our own mission to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and create our own creative ways to learning.

Here in 4RG we ended our day with a Award Ceremony Each child in the class matters! Each child was presented with their own Catholic Value certificate and thanked for being an active member of our community. Well done to the children of 4RG!
