Monday 26th July 2021

Good morning everyone.

We hope that you are coping with the COVID restrictions as best you can. The 7 day lockdown has brought new and uncertain challenges to us all. As we all try to adapt to the rapid changes to our way of life, the restrictions to our movements and restrictions to our social life, we are all faced with many emotions. It is very healthy to talk to your children about how you are feeling, and also listen to your children’s questions and acknowledge their feelings. This will enable a sense of safety and that we are all in this together.

On line learning provides the children we teach, with a sense of stability and structure to their ongoing learning at home.

The children will need to check in and send me an email or a thumbs up on Microsoft Teams so that I know they are on their laptop and ready for the day’s work. The children have already been doing this and are familiar with the process.

I am the class teacher for Mondays and Tuesdays and I will be available for any questions that arise throughout the next 2 days.

If another teacher sets a task, the children need to reply to that teacher, and not to myself.

Once the children have completed their learning for the day, they can attach it to an email and send it to me.

Feel free to email or contact myself on Microsoft Teams with any questions you have about the learning throughout the day and I will reply as soon as I can.

The children will be following the routine of a normal school day, therefore, there will be a break for recess and lunch, and we will also have some mindfulness and some physical activity.

Here is the learning for today.

I saw this reflection last night and I thought it was fitting to share – what isn’t cancelled for you?

Thursday July 22nd

Hello families,
It was lovely engaging with you on the phone yesterday. If we got your voicemail please feel free to email us if you have any concerns about home learning.

Home learning begins at 8.50 with a check in on Microsoft Teams.
Tasks for the day include:
Reading – minimum 20 minutes – students can then create a ‘Reading Log’ and record the book they read and how many pages. Also a reflection about what they read.
Writing – 30 minutes of writing – students have their Writer’s Notebook and they can do their own writing or they may wish to engage in the prompt “If you could go anywhere on a class excursion, where would you go?”
Word Study – Boggle challenge – how many words can you find from the given letters?
Numeracy – Chance – A keynote will be sent on Teams with tasks for the students.
Fitness – It’s very important that your child regularly exercises through the day. A keynote with possible activities will be sent to the children.
Inquiry – A keynote will be sent to the children on Teams for them to investigate a topic of their choice. This has been designed to be very open ended and not finished in one day, this is an ongoing task during lockdown.
Additional optional tasks include: Typing.com, Prodigy, Epic books (these are all programs the children are familiar with)

The children can ask any questions they have on Teams and we will be there to assist them if they need anything.
Kind regards, Emily Monaghan and Kira Matiscsak

Online Learning

Hello,

As you are aware, the school will be running differently over the next week.

Tomorrow you will receive a call from Emily Monaghan for 4MB students or Kira Matiscak for 4RG students.

We will be checking in about internet access for the next week for the children and also about their wellbeing.

On Thursday we will post an outline of activities for students to take part in during the day on the blog so families can see what the children are expected to do.

All students with a laptop have access to Microsoft Teams and we will have class discussions in there where children can ask about work. We ask that Teams is only used during school hours. Children will also receive their work tasks via Teams.

We will be sharing with students all of the tasks for the day and they can complete those tasks in any order they wish with flexibility towards their needs and interests.

We hope this message finds your family safe and well and don’t hesitate to contact us via email if you have any questions.

Kind regards, Emily Monaghan, Julie Braiotta and Kira Matiscak
