Keeping Safe Curriculum

As a part of the keeping safe curriculum today, we explored the concept of power.  We looked at different situations and recorded if each was using power in a positive or an abusive way.  In addition to this, we explored safe touching and recognising abuse and neglect.   The aim for our lesson today was to provide students with strategies to keep themselves safe.

Our reading comprehension task today was based on The 13-Storey Treehouse.  Students explored the first few pages of the novel and had the task of continuing their own page following the illustrations and theme of the novel.

Reading Response

As a part of literacy this morning we read a short excerpt from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.  Students developed their  prediction,  comprehension and creativity skills when responding to questions about the text.

In science this week 5/6 HM and AE have been making their own Bio Domes.  A Bio Dome is a mini man made atmosphere that supports life.  Students will be monitoring and documenting what happens over the next few weeks and learning  more about sustainability, the water cycle,  engineering and design and the Nitrogen Cycle.
