R U OK? THURSDAY

FOUR STEPS TO STARTING A CONVERSATION

ASK R U OK?

  • Jai – Asking how they are feeling
  • Billy – Checking in on them and if they are alright
  • Stefan – See if they are alright if someones leg is broken
  • Yafet – Asking if they are okay, how they feel about what is happening
  • Deng – Asking how they feel during their emotions and how their mind feels right now

LISTEN

  • Alix – Not interrupting the person whilst they speak
  • Jai – Letting them express their emotions
  • Alex M – Hearing the importance of what they are saying is
  • James M – Knowing what the person is trying to say
  • Jamie – Listening when they answer
  • Billy – Let them express themselves and let everything out
  • Yafet – Listen to what they are saying and do not judge them
  • Deng – Letting their mind be free by listening to them

ENCOURAGE ACTION

  • Yafet – Not letting them be hard on themselves and not letting them give up
  • Billy – Encourage them to do the right thing, talk to them
  • Deng – Speak to someone
  • Jai – Giving someone an apology
  • Billy – Having a conversation
  • Yafet – Encourage them to take it upon themselves to fix it
  • Jai – Encourage them to fix their problem
  • Rachael – Being engaged in something they enjoy

CHECK IN

  • Billy – Checking in on them after a few days and see how they are going
  • Deng – Seeing how they feel after the incident
  • Stefan – Check in often
  • Yafet – Ask the question again
  • Rachael – Do not bring up the situation

WE HEADED OUTSIDE TO ENGAGE IN A CLASS ACTIVITY┬á WHERE WE SHARED IN DISCUSSING THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS…

We formed an inner and outer circle to discuss with a partner, expressing our thoughts and feelings. We rotated our partners to discuss these questions with different peers.

We explored the video below together, educating ourselves further in ‘there’s more to say after r u ok!’ ­čÖé
