Six Word Stories

To commence the term we have asked the students to create six word stories. This will challenge the students with the power of words and the importance of punctuation within their writing. Before we create our own stories we have looked to develop our vocabulary through the use of descriptive words and similes using images of landscapes to elaborate on the detail within an image.

Geography Inquiry

Students will be undertaking a geographical inquiry that has a particular focus on the theme of The World Around Us. Within this theme, each student will branch off into different directions depending on their year level, in accordance with the Australian Curriculum. There will be an emphasis on students engaging with the  6 characteristics that make up the domain of geography in the inquiry they conduct.

Knockout Soccer

Today 15 students across the 5/6/7 classes took to the pitch at Salisbury Villa in a 3rd round match against St Columba in the state knockout competition. Representing 6/7NB and 5/6MN were Matios (Captain), Riley (Vice-Captain), Francis, Satish and Joseph (with a special mention to Aliya for her services as our lines person). It was a gallant effort by the team but they eventually went down to a tough, well-drilled opposition 0-4. Unfortunately this result means the end of the campaign for HFCS. I would like to congratulate all students on the way they represented the school. They played with passion and enthusiasm throughout the tournament. Thank you to Mr Pearce who assumed the role of Coach throughout the campaign.

Students have been working on a 100 languages task over the last two days that has them exploring and learning about Indigenous peoples, their culture, language and place in the community. It has been really pleasing to see the level of engagement throughout the task as students busily immerse themselves in the learning.

Kuyangani Art

Over the course of the week students have been busily working at creating a sketch of an underwater scene for a backdrop for the school fish farm (Kuyangani). The sketches will be sent to Mrs Bariotta who is leading a project to create a large underwater mural to be installed in the fish farm to make it less of a shed and more of an inviting learning space. With student voice always at the forefront, this is a great initiative to include students across all year levels have their work showcased in an area we are very proud of. Below is some of the work that has been completed so far. More to come.
