Guided Reading Week 4 – Chinese New Year

– The calendar that Chinese people follow is called the lunar calendar which is followed by the moon, different to the ones we have, we follow the days, months and years that go by, they follow the moon. Chinese new year is on the second full moon after the middle of winter and each year it is on a different date, sometimes January or February, the date also is the beginning of the spring harvest, a good time for farmers prepare for the season.

-Some ways to celebrate Chinese new year are to hang up red lanterns and banners and set off fireworks too, it’s because of a old ancient story about a monster called Nian, every year at the end of winter Nian would come out from the mountains and terrorize people until a old man came up with an idea,, the idea was to hang up read bbanners and lantern, then bang drums, set off fire works too, he said it would scare off Nian and it did.

Guided reading week 3

What helps me read-

The things that help me read are when I try to sound it out or I try to read it in my head and I usually get it right I’m wrong I try again and sometimes I do both of them at the same time. I keep on trying, if I keep getting it wrong I get help from one of my siblings.

What helps me write-

The things that help me write are thinking what I am going to write first, then I write it if I get it wrong and I read to see if it’s write if that doesn’t work, I look to see if it looks right, if not my sister sees that I am in trouble and she helps me out sometimes.

What helps me learn-

I can learn when I concentrate on my work not get distracted and when I read  and write too, Sometimes my standers are 5/five lines but not always, I think it’s really easy to learn but I get distracted really easy but I always get my work done at the end.
