Tuesday 22nd October, Week 2

Numeracy – Exploring Halves and Quarters

Today we further explored our fraction work by thinking about how to cut items into halves and quarters. To help us investigate this we each had grapes to cut into halves and quarters. Some of us explored how to cut them in different ways but still ensure all the pieces were the same size so that it was “fair”.

How did you cut your grapes?

Tanish: I cut them in different ways, in half and side ways into quarters

Christina: I cut my grapes into halves and used a knife

Able: I put two together and cut them to make four

Gurshaan: I cut with a knife in the middle to make two halves and then I cut into quarters to make four

Adhip: I cut into halves and quarters by cutting in the middle and the top

Portia: I cut these into four pieces and into 2s

Yasmin: I cut the grapes. I cut them in half in the middle. It made two

Ivy: I cut them in half

Athian: I cut the grapes in half

Ivy: Thank you for my friends, Amen

Tanish: Dear God, Thank you for the trees so we can breathe, Amen

Tuesday 24th September, Week 10

Welcome to Tuesday week 10

We started the day with fitness on the playground

Numeracy

In numeracy we discussed everyday situations that will happen or won’t happen. We then played a game where we had a sign saying “Won’t happen” on one side of the classroom and another saying “will happen” and we had to go to the sign we agree with. For example,  will it snow today? Will Easter Bunny visit us today?

Writer’s Workshop

Some of us wrote stories based on our shared reading text “I went walking”

R/1GC:Music

R/1TCD: Literacy/phonics games and brainstorming f and fl words

Tuesday Week 9, Term 3

Tuesday 17th September

Today we had a busy but fun day with lots of learning! We started the morning by singing a song about our letter of the week “s” and counting how many “s” words we could hear and see in the song. We then followed singing with fitness on the playground.

After fitness we completed some numeracy work on time. We discussed and reflected on what types of activities we do on Tuesdays.

Writer’s Workshop

R/1GC: Music

R/TD: Literacy games based on letter sounds and sight word. Some of the activities included making sight words out of play dough, making the alphabet puzzle, using the dictionary to write “s” words on whiteboards and sight words bingo

Investigations

After mindfulness we worked with our peers to complete activities such as planting sunflower seeds (to match our theme of Spring and the letter of the week), looking through books to investigate clothes appropriate for Spring, creating with lego and making figurines from our shared reading text “Jack and the Beanstalk”. At the end of the day we continued our Spring theme and letter of the week by sharing strawberries.

Tuesday 10th September

Tuesday week 8

Numeracy and fitness:

This morning we started doing numeracy by looking at time. We combined this learning with fitness by using sand timers to find out how many activities we could do before the sand timer stopped. Some of the activities included running, hopping, push ups and star jumps.

When we returned from fitness we further explored how long one minute is. We discovered an activity such as tieing your shoe lace takes one minute whilst driving to school takes long. We also estimated how many hops we could do in 1 minute. We then recorded our discoveries

What can you do in one minute?

Lina: read a book

Navya: write a sentence

Grace: You can read a short magazine

How many hops do you think you can do int 1 minute?

Andrew: 100

Porsha: 60

Ebony: 30

Ivan 99

Abel: 1 trillion

How many hops did you do in 1 minute?

Massa: 105

Lowell: 63

Gurshaan: 68

Korbyn: 50

Athian: 61

Raavi: 100

Williams: 119

Prayer

Navya: Dear God, Thank you for my family, Amen

Grace: Dear God, Thank you for the beautiful songs and Rhee-Jay

Deeksha: Thank you for the environment, Amen
