We are readers and we are writers

This week our Shared Reading Text is “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?”

Before we read the book we had a chat about the information we could see on the front cover.

What could you do to help you know what the book is about?

Declan: Look at the pictures

What do you think this book will be about?

Raavi: a big bear

The Writer of this story is Bill Martin Jr. – What’s the writer of the story called?

Zac: The author

When we read stories we can use ideas from that story to write our own stories. What kind of story could you write?

Massa: Brown pig, brown pig, what do you see?

Porsha: Black snake, black snake, what do you see?

Nyok: Blue spider, blue spider, what do you see?

Yasmin: Yellow duck, yellow duck, what do you see?

Zac: Brown dog, brown dog, what do you see?

On Tuesday we found the letter B in the Brown Bear book. This is our focus letter for the week. We made a list of words that we know that start with B and recorded some in our Literacy books…

On Wednesday we looked for the word “see” in the Shared Reading text. This is our focus word for the week. When it gets to Friday and we are really familiar with the word we will take out our library books and see if we can find the word see in our books. Maybe this is an activity that you can try with us at home while we are reading to you in the evening.

This week, for our Literacy Learning Experiences we explored;

  • Oral language using the phones
  • Making high frequency words with magnetic letters
  • Writing silly sentences
  • Matching lower case letters with their capitals
  • Making bears for the letter B
  • “What do you see” with magnifying glasses
  • Literacy game

Have a look at how we have engaged in the Literacy Learning Experiences so far this week…
