Good morning and welcome to week 10! We hope you are going gently during these uncertain times!

Come Read with Me

This morning we read the books from our Choice Book Boxes.

At home tip: You can read for 20 minutes with your library books or the books you have at home. You can read to you or a sibling, you can even read to your favourite teddy! Remember to use the pictures to help tell the story and to look for words and letters that you know.

Shared Reading

This week our Shared Reading Book is Koala Lou by Mem Fox.

We listened to Ms Angilletta read the book to familiarise ourselves with the text.

At home tip; you can access this text from home via YouTube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4vEj8TMkW4

You can also choose your own Shared Reading book if you like.

Literacy Learning Experiences

We engaged in our Literacy Learning Experiences for the week.

This week our Focus Letter is Kk

Our Focus Word this week is “love”

The Literacy Learning Experiences are directed so any student can access them at any level. Have a look at how we’ve engaged in the learning and some of the tips for how you can access the learning from home;

Letter Table – Kk

Massa is exploring our letter of the week table.

At home tip; You can make your very own letter of the week table, what things can you find around the home that start with K?

Extension; can you write the words that start with the k sound?

“Have a Go” book – writing our Focus Word “love”

Zac is using the “Have a Go” book to practice writing our focus word “love”.

At home tip; You can practice writing the word “love” on a piece of paper.

Extension; do you know how to write any other words? Can you put the word love in a sentence and write it down?

Making a Koala for the letter K

Will, Nyok, Nahom and Bodhi are making Koalas for our letter K wall.

At home tip; You can make your own Koala at home – what resources can you use?

Extension; can you make anything else that starts with the letter k?

High Frequency Word Practice

Celina is practicing writing High frequency words that she has found in her library books.

At home tip; You can do this same activity at home by looking for words in your library books that appear often. Get a piece of paper and a pencil and write them down.

Extension; Can you write the words without looking at them in your books. If you can that means you have committed these words to memory – this is the goal with High Frequency words – Well done!

Focus Word Practice – love

Vedika, Emily, Kuch and Massa are practicing writing the word love. They are writing “I love” and then finishing the sentence with something they love. Vedika has written “I love my mum, I love my dad, I love my brother’. She has sounded out the words she doesnt know how to spell.

At home tip; You can practice our focus word at home in the same way, write “I love” and then write or draw something you love.

Extension; Can you put love in a sentence in another way? Can you write a short story about love?

Capital Letters and Lower Case Letters

Will is using books to find and record capital letters. Once he find a capital letter he writes it down. Next to the capital letter, Will is recording its “friend” – the corresponding lower case letter.

At home tip; You can do this same activity at home with your library books. How many capital letters can you find?

Extension; Do you know when we use capital letters? Can you write a sentence using a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence.

High Frequency Word Detectives

Zac is looking for High Frequency words in his book. Once he finds one he writes it down on a notepaper.

At home tip; You can do this same activity at home using your library books.

Extension; Once you have found the word can you record the word without looking?

Oral Language Literacy Games

Nyok and Campbell are practicing their oral language while playing Literacy Games.

At home tip; You can play any board game to practice your oral language! Have a conversation with whoever you’re playing against!

Sport – R1GT

After Recess R1GT went to their sport lesson.

At home tip; Check out the sport blog for ideas for fitness at home…

It is so important for your mental health to stay active, spend some time playing outside if you can and get some sunshine 🙂

Investigations

We explored our interests during Investigations.

At home tip; This is a time for you to explore your interests through play. Think about what you can use at home. If mum lets you, you could even do some cooking or help out with other things we do around the house. Remember that no matter what were doing we are always learning. You could use Lego to make and build. You could draw pictures. You could even teach a sibling or your favourite teddy something new! What are your ideas for Investigations at home?

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is important to help us decrease stress and anxiety, and to help us regulate our emotions. We practice mindfulness every day after lunch!

At home tip; You can practice mindfulness at any time of the day. Here is a YouTube Channel that we like to use in class for mindfulness music. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtJ6ylmIVLmxdycQvUQB6YQ

Numeracy

We are continuing to focus on number and place value, and explored this through our Numeracy Investigations for this week…

Vedika, Nahom, Emily, Kuch and Will are rolling two dice together and adding them together in a number sentence.

At home tip; you can do the same activity at home by rolling two dice and adding the numbers together and writing it in a number sentence. If you don’t have any dice at home you can access a virtual dice online with this link; https://www.random.org/dice/?num=2

Extension; you can roll the dice more than two time, add as many numbers as you like. Alternatively, on this website they have dice with 20 sides, offering higher numbers to add together; https://www.transum.org/software/SW/Dice/

Celina, Massa and Nyok are using Coles Little Shops to practice their one-to-one correspondence. They are sorting the groceries, and counting how many there are of each.

At home tip; You can do this same exercise at home if you have Coles Little Shops, or can use any objects you can find around the home.

Extension; Choose two of the objects you have counted and add them together. Can you keep adding the objects until you have the total of all the objects?

Ethan, Nyok, Zac and Campbell are writing numbers on a number chart.

At home tip; You can do this same activity at home, we have provided a blank number chart on last Wednesday’s blog if you would like to use it; https://blogs.holyfamily.catholic.edu.au/r1gtr1ma2020/2020/03/25/wednesday-25th-march-2020/

Extension; Can you skip count by 2’s? shade in all of the numbers with which you count by 2 (2, 4, 6, 8… all the way to 100. Here is a song to help you out… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wwydguSKOU

We hope you had a fun day of learning! Stay safe and stay healthy!
