Child Protection Curriculum – Feelings
‘Sometimes my heart feels like a big yellow star, shiny and bright.
I smile from ear to ear and twirl around so fast,
I feel as if I could take off into the sky.
This is when my heart is happy.
Happiness, sadness, bravery, anger, shyness . . . our hearts can feel so many feelings! Some make us feel as light as a balloon, others as heavy as an elephant. In My Heart explores a full range of emotions, describing how they feel physically, inside. With language that is lyrical but also direct, children will be empowered by this new vocabulary and able to practice articulating and identifying their own emotions.’
Today we read, ‘In My Heart – A Book of Feelings’ by Jo Witek. The children shared how their hearts were feeling.
Alexia – ‘My heart feels happy because I am having a good day at school.’
Mikayla – ‘My heart is feeling brave because I am not always happy so I am being brave to come to school.’
Alana – ‘I feel excited because I am almost going to the airport to go to the Gold Coast.’
Alexa – ‘My heart is feeling sad. It is broken because I went to the doctors.’
Nickolas – ‘My heart is feeling super super excited to see my puppy, Alfie.’
Connor – ‘My heart is feeling excited because I am going to the movies.’
Edel – ‘I am feeling happy because I am going to a different school when I am six.’
Mrs Feher recorded how her heart was feeling brave today because her two little boys started at a new ELC and she was feeling nervous about how they would go. She also shared how she was feeling a bit sad because it was her youngest son’s first birthday and she could not spend it with him.
