Today the whole school celebrated ‘Catholic identity day’.

What is Catholic identity?

We listened to a special message sent to us from Father Shibu. We then reflected on his message.

  • Elijah – Everyone is a different shape but still like God
  • Connor – some people might have different hair or different skin…thats ok, God loves everyone

WRITERS WORKSHOP

We are all AUTHORS!!! Today we spent time enjoying our writing and creating books. Teachers worked with small conferencing groups supporting needs of individual children.

  • Nikolas shared his book about ‘motor bikes’. he included some great detail in his front cover.
  • Oliver is in the process of making an information book about dinosaurs. He was sounding out words and forming sentences – well done!!
  • Mithra is creating a narrative about Barbies. She completed a great front cover and working on the introduction for her story.
  • Elijah is busy creating on an information book about ‘cars’. He is writing sentences to describe what cars have.

Using the big clock, Nikolas demonstrated how to make 3 o’clock.

Layla said “the big hand is on the 12, then its o’clock” she then demonstrated to the class how to make 6 o’clock.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MITCHELL And MITHRA!!

 

MUDLA REFLECTION/SCIENCE INQUIRY

Following our visit last week – we looked back at photos of our visit and inquiry question ‘do the animals at the fish farm/MUDLA need the sun?’

what did we discover?

Alana – the turtles blood is cold and Mr MCarthy put the turtles outside in. the sun to get blood warm

Monique – the warm blood helps them to move around and walk

Kathern – the fish

Connor – the fish have a light and a heater to keep them warm, not all the fish have to be warm

Shyla – the frog needs to get so warm, there is a warm light to keep it warm

Harper – the bearded dragon needs to keep warm, it has a light in its home, its blood is cold

Elijah – the turtle is running

Richard – the hopping mice also had to keep warm with a light

World environment day!! We looked at some plants in our school garden, we thanked each other and God for the produce many of the plants/trees give us and for caring for them.

WRITTEN REFLECTION-CREATIVE REPORTS

Children reflected on how they used creativity during investigations today. they drew/wrote an example of this.

SUN INQUIRY/FISH FARM

Following on from our inquiry and visits to the fish farm, teachers last week posed a question–

β€œdo animals in our MUDLA/Fish farm need the sun?”

Following on from this we became interested in reptiles!

We visited the fish farm with Mr Mc Carthy and investigated this question. He showed us the turtles need the sun especially! The sun is really important. The sunlight helps them move more, it gets their blood nice and warm!!

Mikayla – the lizards also need heat, they have a warm light in there

Sahib – The turtles have cold blood

Alana – yes the turtles and lizards are cold blooded the sun heats them up

Alex – they move in the sun more

Nahom – the fish had a heater too! some tanks had warm water and some fish tanks have colder water i could feel it

Connor – the turtles ans the frogs need the sun. when they get hot, they kind of charge up and move heaps more, hop more!

We will continue this learning and investigating more next week.

Eagle Eye – Look at the picture for a clue to help with the word.

Lips The Fish – get your lips ready. Say the first few sounds

Stretchy Snake – Look at the letters in the word. Stretch the sounds out slowly. Go back and say the sounds altogether.

Chunky Monkey – Look for little words, word endings, and word chunks that you know.

Skippy Frog – Skip the word. Read to the end of the sentence. Hop back and read it again.

Flippy Dolphin – Try the short vowel sound. Then flip and try the long vowel sound.

Tryin’ Lion – Still stuck? Re-read the sentence. I think … what makes sense here?

Helpful Kangaroo – Ask for help but only after you have tried all your strategies

 

ABORIGINAL STUDIES

We will begin the lesson with an acknowledgement of country – explaining to the students what this means/why we do it/it’s importance.

 

After this we will begin to look at different Aboriginal artwork. We will talk about the markings in the artwork – how this was their way of telling stories.

 

Students will then spend time completing some dot painting on rocks for the remainder of the lesson.

PRAYER

 

Draw a reflection on how you could/do recycle at home/school?

  • Natalie – pick up rubbish and put in the right bin
  • Dyani – we have a red, yellow and green bin at home
  • Emily – red is for the apples
  • Shane – red is for rubbish, green for leaves, yellow for the recycling
  • Eliajh – the food and sticks turn into dirt
  • Alexandros – the paper goes into a blue bin and reused into something else
  • Oliver – the food turns into soil, it helps the plants grow
  • Sahib – when you put rubbish in the bin its much better, otherwise rubbish everywhere looks so dirty

 

MATHS REFLECTION

Children will be encouraged to write and/or illustrate a reflection about their numeracy capabilities. They will have a guided question β€˜where are numbers used?’

  • Connor on your letterbox
  • Shae – on passwords, teachers use numbers to count the children
  • Dyani – count how many planes are coming
  • Alana – adding things together
  • Carter – money at the shops and canteen
  • Viraj – numbers on the car, number plate

MINDFULNESS

Drumming, dancing an rhythm

Oliver shared his excitement about drumming with the class today. we all pretended we had our own drums and followed along to the beat of the music. Oliver created his own drums and music using pots and wooden spoons!!

We also sung some rhymes and dancing.
