Wednesday (Term 2: Week 6)

Welcome to Wednesday!

We had a wonderful day, packed with learning and laughter. Thank you to Miss Roberts who joined us in R1MP. She said she had a lovely day with our learners and complimented them on their engagement, enthusiasm and excellent tidying up.

Congratulations to Sam, who has achieved his 50 nights Home Reading challenge – what a super achievement and how proud he was to share this news with his friends and teachers!

LETTERS AND SOUNDS

Today, whilst Miss Roberts took Group 2 to the library, Group 1 were revising all the letters and sounds they have met so far this semester with Mrs Handforth. They also practised reading and writing some important sight / high-frequency words. Well done to this group, who showed they had learned how to match so many letters and sounds, and write consonant-vowel-consonant words accurately

Whilst Miss Roberts took Group 1 to the library, Group 2 were learning all about the unvoiced digraph ‘th’ (as in moth) with Mrs Handforth. Listen to the sound here:

After working on the whiteboards to segment sounds to spell, the children then used blending to match moth wings to make words. Here’s a few examples:

NUMERACY

The children were challenged to find different ways of making 10 or 20 by arranging toy animals into fields. They were encouraged to record their findings in their numeracy journals.

Miss Roberts kindly photographed lots of examples of the students’ learning with her awesome helper, Lina!

FITNESS

We had a sunny 25 minutes fitness on the oval after Numeracy. Congratulations to Aleer, who organised a soccer match, showing great leadership, including everyone who wanted to play, making sure everyone got a go at the position they wanted to try and encouraging everyone to play their best. Miss Roberts and Mrs Handforth were very impressed!

Williams, Liam and Mrs Handforth even managed to fit in a quick visit to the MUDLA whilst keeping fit:

PLAY INVESTIGATIONS

We generated a set of rules for a safe and happy play investigations:
