Come Read with Me

Children shared a text with their teacher and then each other. Some children worked on a writing task, creating sentences with ‘ee’ words in them.

R1MP shared Wombat Goes to School by Jackie French.

She sleeps. She eats. She scratches – and finds a hole. When Mothball discovers a new hole, it unexpectedly leads her to the local school. The children learn that wombats love carrots and grass, while Mothball learns that lunch boxes contain very few carrots, that sports sheds can be a good place to have a nap, and that when you’re brown and round, it’s not a good idea to get too close to a ball …

R1JH shared the text The Fly by Gusti.

A cheerful insect’s fun day at the beach goes terribly wrong in this whimsical picture book. It was a beautiful morning, and the fly had everything he needed to go swimming: a bag, a ball, a towel, and some sunscreen. The water was not too hot, not too cold, just the way he liked it. But little did he know he was in for a big surprise … he was really swimming in a toilet bowl! With charming illustrations, this hilarious and unexpected story will delight youngsters.

During Come Read with Me, Arnav wanted to practise his writing, so he set himself the challenge of copying all the words out of one of his readers … what beautiful handwriting too, Arnav.

After recess, we had just a few minutes before the start of Mass, so we undertook a shared reflection about our capacity-based learning  with water in yesterday’s Numeracy lesson.

Mass

Today we participated in a whole school Mass in the Pope John Paul II Hall to celebrate the life of Australia’s first and only saint, St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

You can visit Mary’s statue in Adelaide, close to the Catholic Cathedral.

Playground

We visited the playground after Mass in order to get some fresh air, fun and exercise.

After lunch Sahana, Victoria, Nicole and Lina performed a dance for their peers, which Eerat confidently introduced:

Here’s the dance for you all to enjoy!

Health

Mrs Papillo continued to lead us in a journey on which we are discovering all the wonderful ways WE can look after teeth, part of keeping ourselves happy and healthy. Suggestions from the children included: brush your teeth with toothpaste and a toothbrush, use floss, use mouthwash and don’t eat too many sweets. We asked the children how often dentist recommend we brush our teeth …. TWICE a day – when we get up in the morning and before we go to bed at night.

The children created posters to record their ideas:
