Wednesday (Term 4 | Week 2)

Welcome to Wednesday everyone and we hope your day is full of learning and fun!

BOOKMAKING

Mrs Papillo’s group continued to work on the books they started on Monday.  It was great to see each student thinking about and writing facts for their information book.

NUMERACY

The students worked on a different number activity this morning.  Students were counting, subitising, matching numbers to amounts and calculating.

PLAY INVESTIGATIONS

SCIENCE
Today the children were investigating changing the physical state of materials by stretching.
We began by activating our prior knowledge about stretching.

We then moved on to explore some objects, asking the children if they thought these objects could be stretched. We tested their predictions and observed if we could indeed stretch them.  We also talked about why we thought some materials stretch more easily than others and whether objects of made of certain materials are more likely to stretch than others.

Using a rubber band, a plastic glove and a balloon the children explored the term ‘elastic’ and learned that this means ‘to go back to its original form’. We then introduced a jelly snake and asked the children if they thought it was elastic. The children then carried out a simple investigation to test the elastic properties of three different brands of jelly snakes. We called this investigation: STRETCH IT OUT!

The children worked in pairs to conduct their jelly snake investigation. They placed each snake on a starting line and held the tail end whilst stretching the snake as far as it would go. We discovered that Allens were the stretchiest snakes, The Natural Company were the second stretchiest and the least stretchiest were Coles own brand. Everyone was sad to learn that scientists do not eat the materials and objects they investigate, but fun was had by all nevertheless … and it just so happened there were spare snakes for everyone to have one small treat.

OUTDOOR FITNESS

After our science investigation we ventured outdoors for some fresh air.
