Monday (Term 4 | Week 3)

A very warm welcome to Week 3.

Today is a special one for Kaia. We sang Happy Birthday and wished her a wonderful day .

Congratulations
… to our wonderful readers, who have achieved significant milestones in their learning journeys.

Bookmaking
We are continuing to learn about the structural and language features of information (non-fiction) books. This
week the children are making an information book on any expert topic of their choice. Before writing, they engaged in a mini-lesson with a teacher where they are introduced to mentor texts that demonstrate some of the key features of this genre.

Mrs Handforth’s group focused on completing a front cover today. It had to have a title, name of author and an illustration.

Mrs Papillo’s Group discussed their expert knowledge and began their books too.

Library
Today’s shared story was Luna Loves Art by Joseph Coelho.

At the gallery, Luna is transfixed by the famous art, but her classmate Finn doesn’t seem to want to be there at all. Finn’s family doesn’t look like the one in Henry Moore’s ‘Family Group’ sculpture, but then neither does Luna’s. Maybe all Finn needs is a friend.Join Luna and Finn at the Art Gallery and step inside famous works of art by Van Gogh, Picasso, Jackson Pollock and more! Can you spot all the art?

You can hear the author read his story here:

Religion
The children revisited the story of Jonah and the Whale this afternoon.  The provocation was: How is something so big, such as a whale or ship, able to float and not sink to the bottom the ocean?  Then the students were asked to use play dough to create an object that would float  before testing their object in the water.
