Today students explored the following literacy investigations:

  • Painting nails
  • Can you make a necklace?
  • Can you make a nest?
  • Catch the fish using the net

Collect House Day: clean up & lunch snaps

As mentioned in the post below, the children of the Village worked together to tidy the school yard as part of Clean Up Australia Day. R/1MC took their clean up to Grevillia Reserve. Grevillia Reserve is enjoyed by the students so they couldn’t wait to get outside and be involved in tidying our precious environment. The ELC children met us through the fence and invited us into their courtyard for a play afterwards!

R/1EN and R/1MC enjoyed their lunch!

our visit to the ELC

This morning we were invited by our friends in the ELC to view a performance by Mr Slater! The children joined Mr Slater in singing and he lead us through an engaging game of freeze. We were actively participating in a range of motion from fast movement to slow movement. We learnt about different tempos and investigated the structure of a guitar! Through singing, children share in rich communication and relationships, a sense of belonging, meaningful learning and many happy experiences. Thank you Mr Slater for this rich learning experience. Have a look at our fun 🙂

Monday Investigations

This morning we listened to the story, ‘I’m Australian Too’ by Mem Fox. The students reflected and during investigations were provided with the opportunity to make meaning from the text. For example, students explored our Australian provocation where they participated in dot painting, created flags from around the world, researched the globe, used ICT to research Australian animals, used clay to explore their interests in making Australia’s Spinifex Hopping Mouse and used loose parts to make food from around the world- students made pizza using paper and  Yasha used logs to make Sushi!  Students also explored a range of other provocations created to meet their interests 🙂

We were very fortunate to have our friends from the ELC join us for investigative play and Mass song practice!

Monday Investigations

This morning during investigative play it was great to see the children develop their emerging autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and sense of agency! Have a look at our learning.

Grevillia Reserve

This morning we visited Grevillia Reserve for nature play. We went outside nice and early to beat the heat!

The benefits of playing in nature are almost infinite. Spending time in nature keeps children’s minds fresh. It exposes them to varying situations where they are forced to learn and adapt to best fit themselves into the prevailing conditions. For instance, climbing trees.

Climbing on trees or other objects helps children understand the risks involved in the process; they become better at risk assessment. Even if children sustain a minor injury, something in them grows. They also learn problem-solving skills, and they develop a deeper appreciation towards physical activity.
