Today we enjoyed a day of cultural celebrations for Harmony Day.
The students learnt about how all Australians equally belong and enrich this nation. We discussed our own cultural background and created a collaborative class poster to display the theme of Harmony Day – ‘Everyone Belongs’.
Next week on Monday the 21st of March it is Harmony Day.
Harmony Day is a day to celebrate Australia’s diversity. The theme for Harmony Day is ‘everyone belongs’.
To celebrate Harmony Day students are welcome to wear the colour orange or traditional cultural clothing on Monday. The canteen is also having a $5.00 special of pumpkin soup, roll and orange jelly.
This week in 1EJ & 1CZ we have been learning about the importance of Harmony Day. We created our own posters showing how we help others belong.
We hope you are all taking care and staying well. Below are a few more activities if children want to do some learning at home. Looking forward to seeing you all back in the classroom soon.

Religion
Today is Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is the last day before Lent begins.
Do you know why we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?
Traditionally we use up all the special ingredients in our homes to make pancakes. This is so during Lent we can focus on Jesus who was fasting for the 40 days of Lent.
Watch this short video to learn more about Shrove Tuesday
Below are a few more activities if children are wanting something to do at home. Once again, there is no pressure for anything to be completed as your health is our main priority.

Numeracy
Last week we started learning about different ways we can represent numbers. Watch this video on different ways we can represent numbers:
One way we can show numbers is on a number line. Try creating your own number line for numbers 0-20. If you want to challenge yourself try highlighting or circling the 2’s & 5’s in different colours.
Today the children will be taking home their Reading Diaries. The reading diary is to help encourage students to read each night. To help parents/carers we encourage children fill in the diary by themselves. The diary will be left in their library bag and will be checked once a week, on a Monday, by the teacher. When students reach their reading Awards they will be presented with the certificate in class on a Monday.
With a strong focus on literacy we encourage parents and carers to listen to their child read each night. Understandably this can be difficult for busy lifestyles, one way to combat this is to have children read aloud whilst you are performing day-to-day activities (cooking, cleaning etc).
We are looking forward to meeting you all today. We ask that you leave your child at the classroom door (rooms 11 & 12) with Miss Jackson and Miss Zurcher and let us know the exit gate you are planning to pick your child up from this afternoon. The teachers will deliver your child to that gate entry / exit at the end of the day to meet you. (3pm)
