Welcome to Week 8! We have had a busy week celebrating Harmony Week and all of the things that make us unique and special here at Holy Family. The children made lovely connections between Harmony Day and our current learning in Religion being that God loves all of us no matter our differences and that our differences should be celebrated. It was great to see all of the students dressed in cultural dress and/or orange clothing on Friday.
Reading at home!
Congratulations to Audrey, Tanmay, Dominic and Marley who have completed 25 nights of reading at home and have been awarded a sticker in their reading journals!
This week we read the story of Palm Sunday. We created our own palm leaves and wrote the word ‘Hosanna’ in the middle. Each class in Holy family has decorated their door for Palm Sunday to show off to other classes next Monday!
Harmony Day
For Harmony Day the students created medallions focusing on the orange.
We have almost made our way through all of the single sounds during Word Study. This week our focus sounds were ‘b, j and z’.

This week, in Maths we have continued to consolidate our understanding of counting by 5s through a range of tasks. The students had a go at showcasing to us their knowledge and strengths when counting by 5s through an assessment piece. Later in the week the students began a new topic. We are now exploring and learning how to count to by 10s to 120.
In Religion, we have been working on creating our own retell of the Creation story. As a class we watched and listened to numerous versions of the Creation story and the children made the connection that ‘God is our Creator’ and that every living thing was created by God. The children created mini books where they had a go at writing a sentence and drawing a matching picture to show what God created on each of the 7 days.
We asked the children to show us their favourite page. Have a look at their hard work 🙂
In Hass, we explored a range of images and compared the differences in everyday tasks from the past to the present. We discussed that in the past there was not a lot of the technology that we have today and that meant that a lot of things had to be done by hand. Today we had a go at making our very own butter by hand!
