Welcome to Week 9! We had a wonderful and busy week this week in preparation for Easter. Even in a shorter week the children achieved so much learning and are starting to become really brave learners. Have a look at pictures from our week!
In Maths, this week we have continued our learning around counting by 10s to 120. We have been practicing counting each day to a variety of counting songs and have engaged with a range of different activities. We completed an activity where we had to glue the multiples of ten in order on a caterpillars body.
We also had a go at representing collections of 10 using materials in the classroom and recording the multiples of ten on a sticky note.
We have been practicing writing numbers larger than 100. Have a look at our rockets that count up by 10s to 130! WOW
In Religion, this week we explored the lead up to Easter and the importance of these days in the Catholic Church. We went on a prayer walk around the school and used our i-pads to learn about each Station of the Cross. The students enjoyed reflecting on how they are like Jesus and made connections to times where they would have felt sad, lonely or have needed help from another person just like Jesus did during Easter. We spent each day reading stories, watching videos and drawing our own interpretation of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. Here are some photos of our work this week!
The children also had the opportunity to make an Easter basket and learn’t how to draw the Easter Bunny!.
Our focus sounds in Word Study this week, were ‘w, v and y’. The children have shown great improvement in their letter name and sound recognition and are beginning to write more complex sentences during this time.
In HASS, we have been continuing to look at the past, present and future. This week we explored toys from the past and the present. We sorted a range of toys as a class into past, present and both then the children had a go sorting them on their own.
We hope you all have a safe and happy Easter and spend some time with your families. We sent the children home today with a small gift to enjoy over the long weekend.
We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday for Week 10.
