ART- In Art this fortnight, students have been learning how to use warm and cool colours to create contrast and make parts of their artwork stand out. Building on our knowledge of primary and secondary colours, we explored how different colour choices can change the way an artwork looks and feels. The students designed their own imaginative space city artworks. They used cool colours for the background to represent the night sky or space, and warm colours for their buildings to make them pop. We also spoke about how colours can work together and how to choose combinations that look great. Below you’ll see photos of the students’ colourful and creative artworks – we’re so proud of how thoughtfully they used colour in their designs!

Technologies- This week, the students designed their own cubby house. They drew their design using a front-on view and a bird’s eye view.

Science- This week, our class had the opportunity to visit the Year 4 Habitat Museum Walk in the Centre. The students explored dioramas and digital wildlife park creations designed by the Year 4s, who shared their learning about different habitats and the animals that live in them. Our students were engaged and curious, asking thoughtful questions and showing great interest in the different environments and living things. We look forward to building on this experience as we dive deeper into biological sciences next term!

School disco- We’re excited to share that our school disco was a huge success! Students had a fantastic time dancing, singing, and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere with their friends. The event was filled with laughter, great music, and a wonderful sense of community.

Religion- We watched the story of Jesus as the Good Shepherd from the Gospel of John. Afterwards, the students reflected and wrote about how Jesus wants them to live their lives.

AFL- All students are participating in the AFL Kickstart program this term, and they had a great time during our first session on Wednesday—everyone joined in and loved it! To receive free tickets to AFL games and a football at the end of the term, families need to register using the QR code on the flyer which is also attached below.

Science- This week in Science, the children reflected on the life cycle of their broad bean plants, which they have been growing over the past three weeks. They observed their plants closely, drew what they looked like, described their current stage (seed, sprout, seedling, or mature plant), and reflected on whether their growth predictions were correct. The class also discussed what plants need to live and what to do as plants get bigger and stronger. Before taking their plants home, students learned how to replant them into soil, following a step-by-step procedure which was also sent home and is attached below. Families are encouraged to support their child in continuing to grow their broad bean plant, which will eventually produce real beans you can eat and enjoy! Science- This week, the children learned how plants drink water and how it moves through the stem. They did a fun experiment using flowers placed in jars of colored water to see how the water travels up the stem and changes the color of the petals. The children made predictions about what might happen and then observed the flowers over time. They also kept a plant journal where they labeled parts of the plant, drew what their plant looks like, and described its stage of growth. Their plants have now been growing for two weeks, and photos of their experiment and progress are attached. It’s exciting to see how much the plants have changed!

ART- This week, the children explored different types of shapes in their artwork. They learned about geometric shapes like squares, circles, and triangles, as well as organic shapes, which are more freeform and uneven. Through a fun lesson and discussion, they practiced identifying these shapes in various artworks and talked about how shapes can affect how we feel and where we look in a picture. For their activity, each child created a unique “shape creature” by drawing and combining both geometric and organic shapes. They then colored their creatures and added details like eyelashes. Finally, they shared their work by explaining which geometric and organic shapes they used in their drawings. It was a great way for them to understand how shapes can be used creatively and expressively in art!

Health- For health this week, we discussed bullying. The students had to come up with ways to deal with bullying behaviour.

Reconciliation week- This week we celebrated National Reconciliation Week, a time to learn about and reflect on the importance of respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians. As part of our learning, the children traced and decorated their own hands to express messages of support, unity, and respect. Together as a whole school, we created a beautiful Sea of Hands display in the garden near the Kiss and Drop area. We invite you to take a moment to visit and view the display with your child — it’s a colourful and meaningful symbol of our shared journey towards reconciliation.

Science- This week in science, students are learning how to plant a seed and explore how it grows. Each student has planted a broad bean seed in a cup using cotton wool and water. They are learning about the parts of a plant and the stages of its life cycle—from seed to mature plant. Students will observe their bean plants over the next three weeks and record their findings and predictions in their plant journals. This hands-on activity helps them understand what plants need to grow and how living things change over time.

Art- This week in Visual Arts, students are exploring the element of line by looking at how different types of lines—such as curly, wavy, and zig-zag—are used in famous artworks to show movement and direction. After studying pieces by artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Hokusai, Matisse, and Makinti Napanangka, students are creating their own line-focused artwork. Using a photo of their teacher as a starting point, they are drawing expressive lines from their heads outward and filling the space with colourful patterns and designs to create ‘crazy hair’. This creative activity helps students understand how lines can be used to express ideas, emotions, and energy in art.

HASS- This week in HASS, we’ve been learning about what life was like in the past and how people did things without modern technology. The children interviewed their parents or grandparents to learn about their childhood and talked about how things were different back then. We watched videos about daily life in the early 1900s and compared it to our lives today.

To experience the past, we made our own butter by shaking cream in a jar—just like people used to do! The children loved seeing the cream turn into butter and enjoyed tasting it on bread.

Maths- In Maths, we’ve started exploring addition and subtraction. This lesson, we focused on what happens when we add or subtract zero. We learned that adding or taking away zero doesn’t change the number—it stays the same!
We watched Numberblocks: Zero the Hero and used real objects to show this idea. The children then played a fun game in pairs where they rolled dice, added or subtracted zero, and wrote number sentences to match. This helped them understand the concept in a hands-on and engaging way. We’re excited to keep building on our addition and subtraction skills in the coming weeks!

Religion- In religion lessons, we have been learning about Mary. This week we watched the story of the Visitation, where Mary visited her cousin, Elizabeth. The students then had to draw and write about what happened in the story.

We welcomed back the students to school on Tuesday. They came with great enthusiasm and were ready to learn. We hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday, and a joyous Easter.

Sports Day, 2025

In religion we have been exploring holy week and the important days including Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Both classes had a time to move around the school to explore the different Stations of the Cross which allowed students to understand the story more. we used used our class Ipad to scan the QR codes and then read the story as well as engaged with some reflection questions. Here are some photos of us showing respect and reflecting.

In Religion, we have been exploring Holy Week and its significant days, including Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. Both classes participated in a reflective journey around the school, visiting the different Stations of the Cross to deepen their understanding of the Easter story. Using our class iPads, we scanned QR codes at each station to read the associated story and engage with reflection questions. This interactive experience supported meaningful discussion and personal reflection. Here are some photos of our students showing reverence and thoughtful engagement throughout the activity.
