Yesterday, we celebrated the end of Term One with some fun Easter art and craft. The children in 2EF created wonderful cards. They were very engaged and creative during this lesson.

During this week we have been preparing a movie presentation for Holy Week.
Both classes have been working closely with 5/6 students to create an illustration which carefully and clearly highlights a significant part of the Jesus Entering Jerusalem story (Palm Sunday) and the Cleansing of the Temple story (Holy Monday).
The children have done a wonderful job and put a great deal of effort into their illustrations.
Please scroll down to the bottom of this post to view 2EF and 5/6NB’s movie presentation.
Luke 19:28 – 48
Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem
28 After he had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
29 When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it.’” 32 So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They said, “The Lord needs it.” 35 Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, 38 saying,
“Blessed is the king
who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven,
and glory in the highest heaven!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”
Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem
41 As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying, “If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 Indeed, the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up ramparts around you and surround you, and hem you in on every side. 44 They will crush you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave within you one stone upon another; because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.”[b]
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
45 Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling things there; 46 and he said, “It is written,
‘My house shall be a house of prayer’;
but you have made it a den of robbers.”
47 Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him; 48 but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were spellbound by what they heard.
Every Friday, 2EF have been spending time writing books with 5/6NB. This has been a wonderful experience to be a part of. The year 5/6 students have been writing books since they were in Reception, which means they have a plethora of writing skills and knowledge to teach the Year Two students.
McKayla and Arielle have been working with Anh-Trinh.
They have been working on a book called, ‘The Magic Mission’.
Writing and illustrating has been equally shared between the students.
Have a look at their book…

Today we had a visit from year five student, Hayley, a former student of Mrs Feher.
The reason we had a visit is because she created a fantastic book about emotions, called ‘This Book is About Emotions). Hayley read her book to the group and answered the various questions they had to ask about her book.
One student asked, ‘how did you draw the circles so neatly and the same on each page?’
Another student asked her about her colouring techniques.
Others were interested to hear where Hayley’s inspiration and ideas came from.

After this we talked about different feelings, to give us some ideas for our own work.

Each child selected an emotion, wrote a sentence about the emotion and illustrated the emotion just like Hayley had done in her book. After this they drew their emotion on an egg and put their page inside.

This lesson was a big success and every student was full of excitement! The whole lesson was created with inspiration from Hayley’s book. Hayley was very proud, as was I, as her former teacher.
At the conclusion of the lesson, I explained to 2EF that just like Hayley, they too may be the inspiration for a lesson taught to younger students one day. One student was blown away by this idea and commented, ‘I don’t think that could ever be me,’ but what he doesn’t realise is the incredible growth Hayley has shown since she entered my class in 2021. The idea of this lesson taking place would not have seemed like a possibility for Hayley either.
At Holy Family we make this possible!
