Harmony Day Celebrations – Friday 22 March 2024

Celebrations have been held this week for Harmony Day (week 8). Harmony Day is a day to celebrate Australia’s diversity. It is a week of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. The ongoing theme of Harmony Day is “everyone belongs”.

By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians equally belong to this nation and enrich it. At Holy Family, each class has be involved in activities leading up to (and including on) Harmony Day.

Tomorrow, Friday 22 March, students are encouraged to wear traditional cultural clothing, orange or their school uniform. Students will also be able to order a special Harmony Day lunch of Butter Chicken or Chickpea Curry and rice and an Orange Jelly for $6.50 through the canteen.  The normal canteen menu for lunch orders will not be available on Harmony Day, however, the canteen will still be open at recess. Please complete the order form below and return to the school with payment. Order and payment may also be completed through the QKR! App.

Lunar New Year 2024

This Saturday, the 10th of February 2024, is the beginning of the Lunar New Year.

How is the Vietnamese & Chinese New Year celebrated?

During this time, families from Vietnamese and Chinese backgrounds gather together for a reunion dinner on New Years Eve, and clean their houses to sweep away bad fortune on New Year’s Day.

The global celebrations include explosions of light and sound, bell ringing, firecrackers and traditional lion dances.

Traditionally, children are given red envelopes stuffed with ‘lucky money‘ and positive wishes on New Year’s Day.

The Year of the Dragon

The Chinese horoscope for 2024 reveals that this is the Year of the Dragon. This year in particular, is the Year of the Wood Dragon; known to bring authority, prosperity, and good fortune.

Lunar New Year at Holy Family

Children will participate in the Lunar New Year assembly hosted by 6LF & 5KF. To conclude the assembly children will view an inaction Lion Dance.

Children are welcome to wear traditional clothes or red clothing this Friday 9th February.
