End of Term 1 2024 Recap

As we near the start of term 2, we just wanted to quickly recap Term 1. We have enjoyed settling into the school year with your children and getting to know them. Throughout the term we have covered a variety of topics and concepts across all curriculum areas and we have witnessed so much excitement, curiosity, learning and growth. We have also engaged in many extra activities as a class and as a school, which foster elements such as social skills, community values and cultural awareness.

We are looking forward to continuing your children’s learning journey and want to thank you for your ongoing support.

Harmony Day 2024

Harmony Day celebrations will be held this week (week 8). Harmony Day is a day to celebrate Australia’s diversity. It is a week of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. The ongoing theme of Harmony Day is “everyone belongs”.

By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians equally belong to this nation and enrich it. At Holy Family each class will be involved in activities leading up to and on Harmony Day. These include the opportunity for families to share their cultural experiences with our community (for example, reading a book, singing a song, teaching a dance).

On Friday 22 March students are encouraged to wear traditional cultural clothing, orange or school uniform. Students will also be able to order a special Harmony Day lunch of Butter Chicken or Chickpea Curry and rice and an Orange Jelly for $6.50 through the canteen.  The normal canteen menu for lunch orders will not be available on Harmony Day however the canteen will still be open at recess. Please complete the order form below and return to the school with payment. Order and payment may also be completed through the QKR! App.

Lunar New Year 2024

This Saturday, the 10th of Feb 2024 is when the Lunar New Year begins.

How is the Vietnamese & Chinese New Year celebrated?

Vietnamese & Chinese families gather together for a reunion dinner on New Year’s Eve, and clean their houses to sweep away bad fortune on New Year’s Day.

The global celebrations are an explosion of light and sound, involing bell ringing, firercakers and traditional lion dances.

Traditionally, kids would be given red envelopes stuffed with ‘lucky money’ and positive wishes on New Year’s Day.

Which animal is 2024?

The Chinese horoscope for 2024 reveals that the Year of the Dragon – specifically the wood dragon – will bring authority, prosperity, and good fortune.

Those born in the Year of the Dragon are said to possess a captivating demeanour, distinct personality, and strong leadership abilities; while the Wood Dragon Year brings evolution, improvement, and abundance, making it the perfect time for rejuvenated beginnings to set the foundation for long-term success.

How do we celebrate Lunar new year at Holy Family?

6LF and 5KF are hosting the assembly on Friday.
