This term we’ve been looking at how different parts of our lives have changed from the past to children’s lives today. After looking at the way school and communities have changed we looked at how ‘Games and Toys’ have changed…. What did children do before digital technology? Today we tried our hands at some games and activities, just in time for the holidays. The class enjoyed activities such as, jigsaw puzzles, chess, checkers, dominoes, quoits, hula hooping, skittles, pick up sticks, tic tac toe, skipping, snakes and ladder and even marbles. they then reflected on ways they had, fun, learnt new skills and worked with others. Some great holiday activities for families at home.

For Science this term 3SB has been exploring living things. We have discovered the rules for knowing if something is living, what living things need. how they move and their life cycles. We have researched both animals and plants. Last week we headed out to the gardens to plant beans, cauliflower, pumpkin, capsicum and tomatoes.

In term 2 3SB explored visual arts from around the world. We created art works including: Manga, landscape art, Rangoli, Aboriginal x-ray art, pop art, African masks, ancient Egyptian crowns, mosaics and origami.

In term 2 for Science 3SB explored liquids and solids. We investigated the properties of liquids and solids and what they have the same and different. We discovered the effects of adding and removing heat to both liquids and solids. During the term we engaged in numerous experiments to deeper understand liquids and solids.

Over the last few weeks we have continued to investigate heat. We have conducted experiments using the sun as our heat source. We placed different objects in the sun and observed the effects of the heat on each one. We discovered which colour (black, red or yellow) is a good heat absorber. We learnt about which materials are good heat absorbers and which ones are not. We have used thermometers and measuring cups and made predictions and reflected on our results.

This term in 3SB Science we are learning all about heat. We have discovered the 4 main heat sources: electrical, friction, chemical and the sun. We used our bodies to create friction to melt chocolate. We first made predictions about how long it would take to melt the chocolate with certain body parts. After, we reflected on the best way to create friction using our bodies.
