Maths: Re-designing Holy Family Catholic School
Hi everyone,
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you all had a lovely break.
This term 5KF and 6LF are working together for a group assessment for Maths where students are required to re-design Holy Family Catholic School. We are doing this in segments and teaching students the mathematic skills they will need to incorporate within the assessment.
This includes students:
- Justifications for choices they have made.
- Area, perimeter, volume
- Timestables
- Finances / Budget
- Shape / Net
- Angles
- Mapping
- Cospaces
Here are images of students working on the assessment.
Thank you,
Cassundra and Luke
Camp
56 Camp – Mylor Adventure Park
Hi every one,
Here is a PowerPoint presentation about camp and what students are required to bring.
Looking forward to a fun time at camp next week.
Thank you,

Last day of School
Hi Everyone,
As today is the last day of school we focused on the diversity of our double. We asked students who were confident in speaking another language to teach others in the class. We had students learn Arabic, Philopeno, Greek, Vietnamese, Nepal, Spanish and Khmer. It was fantastic to see students collaborate and expand their knowledge of languages.
We had a poetry battle at the end of the day, played dancing games and interactive class activities. We want to wish Scarlett the best of luck at her new school and we will miss her bubbly energy in the double.
Enjoy these photos and have a safe and happy holidays.

Peer Teaching
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
In 5KF and 6LF, we’ve been focusing on revising key mathematical concepts such as operations, fractions, factors, and number talks.
Today, our emphasis was on division and converting remainders into fractions. To begin, we engaged students in hands-on activities where they grouped themselves in numbers like 3, 6, 7, and 12, revealing those who were left over as remainders, providing a visual representation of this concept. We then discussed and explained step-by-step what a remainder represents and its relationship to whole numbers. Once this concept was grasped, we proceeded to demonstrate how to express remainders as fractions.
To further reinforce their understanding, we paired students from Year 5 and 6 together for peer teaching. This approach allowed students to support and guide each other through the equations, with teachers and educators circulating to provide additional support. Peer teaching is highly beneficial as it enhances student learning, improves communication skills, increases engagement, offers diverse perspectives, promotes collaboration, and encourages interaction between students from different classes.
Attached, you will find some photos from today’s activities.
Thank you,
Cassundra and Luke

Term 2 Week 8
Hi everyone,
Maths
- 24-Hour Time: I introduced the concept of 24-hour time and taught students how to convert between 12-hour and 24-hour formats.
- Perfect Day Activity: Students created their ideal day using 24-hour time.
- Review: We revisited key topics such as operations, factors, and fractions.
- Been focusing on 3D shapes where students have received nets and are required to construct the 3D shapes to develop a city.
Science
- Adaptations: Our focus has been on the structural and functional adaptations of animals.
- Assessment: Students completed a questionnaire to evaluate their understanding of the topic.
- Interactive Learning: They then created their own questionnaires on adaptations and quizzed their classmates.
Health
- Family Influences: We explored how family influences affect our decisions and daily lives.
- Scenarios and Reflections: Students read through various scenarios and wrote reflections on how family impacts their choices.
Writers Workshop
- Creative Writing: Students used their writer’s notebooks to brainstorm and develop narrative stories.
- Book Making: They turned their stories into books, engaging in a process we call “book making.”
Religion
Caritas Romita: We studied a woman from Caritas Romita. Students researched her life, then filmed a 2-minute video in the green screen room, comparing their lives with hers.
Technologies / Art
- Spring Fair: We’re preparing for the Spring Fair! Students are competing to design the best banner for the event.
- Banner Design: Using iPads, they created banner templates, working independently or in groups to showcase their designs for the fair.
Hope you all had a great week!
