Week 6 Study List

Hi families of 5TN,

Attached is this week’s study list. Some reminders: please ensure your child comes to school with headphones (Year 5) tomorrow, if you do not have headphones and have not let me know, tomorrow is the last day, as I have to pass this message onto the acting principal (Nicholas DePalma). We have NAPLAN starting next Tuesday and every student needs their headphones, they need to bring this to school and leave these overnight, as we have a public holiday on Monday.

If you would like to do practice NAPLAN with your child, I have attached a link below. Please work on this with them each night and over the long weekend if you have time. https://pages.assessform.edu.au/pages/year-5-demos

I still need graffiti art from the following students:

  • Scarlett
  • Lowell
  • Arjan

Kind regards,

Thao Nguyễn

Pupil Free Day 1st March

Hi families,

Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow (Friday the 1st March 2024) as it is a Pupil Free Day. Teachers will remain on site to engage in professional development. We look forward to seeing you back Monday, enjoy the long weekend.

Kind regards,

Thao Nguyen and Nicholas Bartold

SAPOL Crossing Visit

Today, all Year 5 and 6 students had a visit from SAPOL about crossing duty and their responsibilities as crossing monitors. If your child is interested in being a crossing monitor this year they need to be 10 years of age and available in the mornings (8:30am-8:50am) OR in the afternoons (3:00pm-3:20pm).

Permission forms will go out next week for those who are interested. This is a great opportunity for students to develop their leadership skills and be active members of the school community.

Kind regards,

Thao Nguyen and Nicholas Bartold

Bottles and Cans for Caritas

5TN have been working extra hard the past 2 weeks during the period of Lent by collecting bottles and cans in the school yard. We are raising money for people living in poverty around the world, with all the money raised being donated to Caritas Australia.

Thank you to the families who have already helped make contributions in their Caritas donation boxes. A special mention to students, Adum and Mikayla N who have not only spent their recess and lunch collecting bottles, but have also selflessly used their own pocket money to donate.

Another big mention to Zac, Jye and Enrique who have voluntarily spent an afternoon helping sort out bottles instead of having Fun Thursday. Thank you again, I couldn’t have asked for a more compassionate bunch of students.

We raised a total of $24.50, collecting 245 bottles around the school yard in just 2 weeks!!!

Kind regards,

Thao Nguyen

Headphones for NAPLAN

Hi families of 5TN,

Please send students in Year 3 and 5 to school with their personal headphones next Tuesday the 27th of February for their practice NAPLAN test. Unfortunately, these headphones must be wired, not Bluetooth connected, as they can interfere with the network. If you do not have headphones, do not purchase them, the school can provide them for students, however, there is only a limited supply. These can be left at school to prepare them for the real NAPLAN test on March 13th. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at thao.nguyen@holyfamily.catholic.edu.au

Below are the NAPLAN test dates:

  • Writing – 13th March 2024
  • Reading – 14th March 2024
  • Conventions of Language – 18th March 2024
  • Numeracy – 19th March 2024

Kind regards,

Thao Nguyen

Week 4 Learning

Hi families of 5TN

Below is the study list for week 4 and some examples of students’ work this week. Please ensure children are reading at least 20 minutes each day. In Art this term, we have been learning about graffiti writing. In Writer’s workshop, students’ have been brainstorming a list of things that make them happy and things they can’t stand, these pages will assist them in getting ideas when they are stuck in their writing.

Kind regards,

Thao Nguyễn

Caritas Australia and Study List

Hi families of 5TN,

Today, students were sent home with a pamphlet and Caritas donation box. I have asked that during the period of Lent, we try our best to Fast, Give and Pray. I have asked 5TN to try and raise some money by collecting bottles and cans at home and using that money to put into their money box. I have asked that students don’t bring any bottles and can donations to class but instead have them exchanged by parents and caregivers.

However, if children do drink anything at school, I will collect these bottles to put towards our Caritas donation box. I will take these to the local Scouts recycling centre myself and put this money towards the class box. 5TN have set a goal and if we reach it, the whole class will receive 10 dojo points each. I hope that you can support your children as we enter into this period of giving. Please do not feel the need to go out of your way to spend any extra money, it is the thought that counts. Just $35 can provide communities in Samoa with hand sanitiser!

Below is the study list for this week. Students are expected to complete 3 pages of reading each night this week and fill it in their reading log. They will have one study lesson tomorrow to complete work if they want to participate in Fun Friday.

Please remind your child to wear P.E uniform for fitness tomorrow!

Kind regards,

Thao Nguyen

Parent Information Session

Hi families,

Thank you to those who attended our Parent Information Session tonight, it was so lovely to meet some of you.

Below are the Sporting Carnivals of the year.

We also asked that if any parents were interested in volunteering for canteen, reading and excursions to let us know and we will speak to Rae, in the office, to sort your paperwork and organise a WWCC. The school will cover the cost for this and provide you with relevant paperwork if you were interested.

This week students in 5TN are expected to complete homework each night. I have published a Week 2 Study List below, students MUST complete all the work in the ‘MUST DO’ column in order. If they were absent when I taught the lesson, they are not expected to complete the task. The ‘MAY DO’ section is for work that is not due yet. I have provided my homework expectations below, students are only expected to read each night and to complete any work we did at school.

If you have any further questions, please send us an email:

Also just a reminder that students in 5TN and 6NB have P.E on Tuesdays and 5TN have fitness on Fridays so students can come to school in P.E uniform those days.
