Over the past 3 weeks, 3/4 ZS and CP have explored the beautiful art of poetry.
This reminded me of a collection of nursery rhymes from different countries beautifully illustrated ( cover below).

We are back with our Language of the Fortnight and we’re starting off with ….RUSSIAN! We will look at this melodic language and fascinating culture so watch this space.
In Term 2, we learnt about languages spoken in Afghanistan, but we focused on two which are the home languages of some of our students: Dari and Farsi and Hararagi.
Afghanistan is a beautiful country with an old culture, stunning landscapes and wonderful people.
Out students, although shy, taught us how to say a few word, for example, hello- Salaam Alaikum.

We are finishing off the term with Maltese. Three of our students have a Maltese ancenstry and they were pround to be the representatives of this beautiful language and culture.

Weeks’ 5-7 focus language was Shona which one of the languages spoken in Zimbabwe. Tadiwa and Tauya Madiwa practised their Shona skills with us just before they flew to Zimbabwe to visit their relatives.

Many are surprised to hear that they are many types of Englishes in the world. Not our Liberian students who speak one type of these Englishes. Even within Liberia, there are five types of Englishes due to a number of influences.
At Holy Family, our Liberian students proudly showed their version of English.
After sharing a beautiful story about what different children do around the world in one day, the students from R/1 MC and GC illustrated some on the things they do. Some children eat toast for breakfast while others eat rice or porridge. Some children walk to school who others come by bus or car.

Today, at Holy Family school we celebrated Harmony day with a great assembly by the R/1 MC and GC classes, a fun teacher vs student soccer match and a shared lunch in each classroom. It was great to see so many children wearing their traditional outfits and orange clothes.
