Nina Marni preschool children and families, welcome to our weekly blog.
We are so glad to have all new families and children as part of our school family. We are super excited to welcome you and can’t wait to see all the amazing things we will accomplish together. The days are already joyous with fun filled experiences. Children are making new friends, building strong relationships with educators and everyone around them. They are curious to explore Holy Family Early Years environment, school yard, MUDLA, Fish Farm, attending assembly many more.
Learning Intention
To support new children and families to develop a sense of belonging to the Holy Family Early Years learning environments and to develop relationships within their community. Why: • We believe children begin to learn about themselves and construct their own identity within the context of their families and communities. We view HFEY as an important part of this community and believe we have a responsibility to create positive experiences that will support children’s deep understanding of themselves as significant and respected members and citizens of the world. • In early childhood settings children develop a sense of belonging when they feel accepted, develop attachments and trust those that care for them. As children are developing their sense of identity, they explore different aspects of it (physical, social, emotional, spiritual, cognitive), through their play and their relationships. • Children begin to learn how to interact with others through observation and support. We believe it is important that children are given the opportunities and resources to enter play scenarios with their peers and start to develop an understanding how to interact with others respectfully. • Children have a right to belong to a community and it is important that they are supported to develop this understanding. Through developing this understanding, children are supported to broaden their understanding of the world and their place and role in it. ILP’S: All Children |
To refine and establish a daily routine that supports consistency and predictability for children and educators yet remains responsive to the needs of the community. WHY • There have been changes to the rooms, group of children and educators. With this change there are also changes to room routines and expectations. • The establishment of predictable routines supports children to understand what to expect in their day and provides a sense of comfort and supports the development of resilience as children are aware of the events in their day which in turn contributes to children’s ability to self-regulate. • When educators create environments in which children experience mutually enjoyable, caring and respectful relationships with people and the environment, children respond accordingly. When children participate collaboratively in everyday routines, events and experiences and have opportunities to contribute to decisions, they learn to live interdependently. • Predictability and consistency are important for children as it provides them with a sense of safety and understanding about what will happen next in their day. It is also important that educators make judgements in the moment that will best support the wellbeing of all. • Collaborative room agreements made between children and educators ensure children feel heard and safe within their new environments. ILP’S: All Children Children are becoming more comfortable and confident in adjusting with everyday rhythms and rituals of preschool environment. They are following the cues, invitations and participating in all activities during the day. They are now familiar with the space and the events of the day. They participate and contribute during morning circle time, understand the routines of applying sunscreen, indoor time, outdoor play, group time experiences. They also know the different play spaces which are designated for different purposes. Children are happily engaged in mark making, painting, construction/building experiences, home corner/pretend play, riding bikes, music and movement activities. |

A group of Preschool children attended the assembly on Friday.
We have discussed about the Vietnamese & Chinese New Year. We saw pictures and videos to know how it is celebrated. We were lucky to have Jessie (relief educator) in our preschool room on Friday. She talked about her own culture, the special food they cook to celebrate the day, family dinner, the significance of red envelope, the colour of fortune – red, how it is celebrated in China!
Trajectories:
- Supporting children in recognising their names
- Individual support during circle time
- More community walks
- Outdoor classroom arrangement – drawing/mark making by billabong
- Discussion regarding emotional scale
