Week 3 Term 2 ~ Preschool and LDC4

Nina Marni everyone ! Welcome to our weekly blog 🙂

Children are continuing to settle into the merging of LDC4 and Preschool to create our new learning environment. We have utilised the LDC4 space as our new art space, where the children are able to access a range of art experiences independently and planned by our teachers. The children are able to engage in experiences such as painting, cutting and glueing, water colours, pastels, chalk drawing and much more.

This week our spotlight was to support children in developing and maintaining positive relationships with their peers and to restart insect inquiry with a focus on ants. We investigated ants I whole group and small group experiences. The children initiated their own investigations the yard as they went on missions to discover ants in the outdoor environment. The children observed that there are more than one species of ant in the outdoor environment based on their size and shape.

The children engaged in indoor experiences including connecting shapes. The children used the shapes to create many different creations, using their fine motor and cognitive skills. The children have also shown a keen interest in the magnetic mazes. The magnetic mazes allow the children to further develop their concentration, cognitive, hand eye coordination, language, numbers, colours and fine motor skills.

Children also engaged in fine motor and hand eye coordination activities when using scissors to cut paper into various shapes and glue it to create art work.
