Nina Marni to all our beautiful little learners and their lovely Families . Welcome to our Blog for term 3 /week 5
Welcome to a wonderful week of “Reading is Magic”. Our children and Teachers dressed up this week in some amazing and wonderful book characters where they all very proudly presented at the Holy Family School assembly today.
Learning Intention 2:
Book making
Weekly focus
- Starting from scratch
- what is a book?
- What is the purpose?
- Who reads books?
- Who writes books?
- What do they look like?
- Teachers will use information gained about prior knowledge to decide next steps.
Mentor texts
- Explore a range of Mo Williams (Pigeon books) and Matt Cosgrove books during morning/ Afternoon group times (Term 3)
Children have been exploring a wide variety of books throughout this week, what do books look like ? They were able to identify multiple characters, asking lots of open ended questions and have been quite successful in creating their own unique author texts and design.
Learning Intention 1:
To challenge children’s construction skills by providing loose parts and STEM experiences.
Why
- STEM education in early childhood allows children to begin to learn and retain a knowledge base that they can build on as they get older.
- Loose Parts play encourages children to make, create, problem solve and hypothesize. Loose parts have no instructions and no predetermined rules.
- The concept of ‘loose parts’ supports children to become critical thinkers as they use these open- ended materials to plan their work and create whatever they want to without an adult telling them what should be done. It helps children to be imaginative.
- Loose parts give children the freedom to arrange and rearrange, essentially using the parts to create their own rules and designs, which allows the focus of the experience to be on the process rather than the product. Fine motor skills are developed and strengthened when children grasp and pick up small objects.
As Father’s Day is around the corner our little learners have been busy this week with a special gift for that special person in their lives. They got into painting and designing their own pots towards supporting, facilitating and promoting ecology and sustainability. Children will furnish the final stage of this project next week, but our sustainability project will remain embedded and will continue throughout this term.
Seedlings have been put to the test where children have planted the seeds and have been responsible for taking good care of our exisitng plants and looking after them making sure they get lots of water each day.
Community visits have been quite consistent throughout this week where children explored their greater community of the Holy Family School exercising their physical capabilities and welcoming spring collecting lots of flowers.
Our Morning group times have been quite musical this week as the children were so excited to receive some very colourful xylophones which they immensely enjoyed for most of the group time inventing their own style of rhythm and tunes.
Some specs of gold for this week
Hope you all have a relaxing weekend.
