Nina Marni beautiful little learners and their lovely families, welcome to our Early Learning holiday blog
Learning Intention 1:
To support children’s expression of ideas through our outside environment by creating moments of play with nature play. By explore a variety of enriching experiences which caters to the interests and imaginations of young learner’s. As well as following of sustainable practices, which could lead to inquiry.
Why:
Ensuring our holiday season is filled with laughter and adventure.
- Recently children were talking about chickens and giving them scraps from our dining room. Hannah will be bringing her pet chickens for us to explore this idea further.
- By giving children the opportunity to explore a variety of nature play, it engages them in sensory play and allows them to discover new exciting materials.
- This helps to enhance a child’s critical thinking, brain development and language development, which gives them the ability to build towards more complex learning tasks in the future.
This week children made the most of our beautiful warm weather by engaging in lots of nature play, exploring and investigating with the use of man made materials as well as natural resources. The children were very engaged in building constructing and problem solving putting together their critical thinking boosting their cognitive skills. Our Teachers too were active participants in providing opportunities for the children to discover and build on their findings.
Unfortunately due to unavoidable circumstances Hannah’s pet chickens were not able to visit our little learners this week, but hopefully they will return for a visit next week.
Learning Intention 2 : Provide opportunities for the children to further develop their Gross and fine motor skills during play experiences with community walks
Why: Fine and gross Motor skills help children to navigate the world with confidence.
Children become more confident with a skill, gradually make the task smore difficult
Engage children in active activities every session where and when possible.
Our community visits around the Holy Family Catholic school this week was very exciting and quite energetic. The children are now able to put their own vests on when directed and were able to rediscover putting to test most of their gross motor skills at the school playground.
Book making
Literacy Intentions (our hopes for their learning)
- Children will develop a joyful connection to picture books.
Weekly focus
- Starting from scratch, what is a book? What is the purpose? Who reads books? Who writes books? What do they look like? Teachers will use information gained about prior knowledge to decide next steps.
Mentor texts
- Explore a range of books
- Having discussions on taking care of our books, reading books with children
- Book making stations avalaible at all times
- Discussions and questioning to follow.
- Educators to find moments to read or make books to small groups of children and using these moments as an opportunity for self-regulation and grounding
Book making provides a variety of multiple opportunities for children to engage interact and build verbal and non verbal communication within groups or as individuals. This week children have used many mediums outdoors and indoors to relate their own stories and be their own author.
World space week was celebrated with our little learners this week defined as a celebration of science and technology. Children made their own space shuttles with crafts and sensory and discovered lots of learning of the solar system and its planets
Some specs of gold for this week.
Hope you all have a relaxing weekend and we will see you all back next week for another exciting term of exploring and learning.
