Holy Family Catholic School Early Learning Blog LDC -4 (Term -1/Week 7)

Nina Marni, all our little learners and awsome families,

Welcome to our first term & week seven blog.

Learning Intention 1

To Establish within our Precious Children focusing on developing self-regulation strategies and positive dispositions in our Early Learning Center.

Why: –

  • Educators can develop deeper understandings of the importance of wellbeing in a child’s learning.
  • As a team we have established immediate points of action to support our community in their holistic development.
  • It is important for us to lay the foundations to maximize the opportunities for children throughout their ongoing education.
  • Recognize the importance of wellbeing and perceptions of the child.
  • Acknowledge their ability to build social networks of support, feel confident as learners, and manage the challenging emotions that will arise when facing the unknown faces.
  • fostering willingness and build self-confidence, enjoyment of learning ad minimizes the fears around taking a risk to learn.
  • Strengthens the art of teaching. It recognizes the critical importance of relationships, perception of self and the wellbeing and emotional states of complete engagement.

ILP’s: All children

Children who have the ability to regulate their emotions effectively in their early years tend to be more motivated to learn, have a positive attitude towards school, participate well in the classroom, and feel happier in their school environment.

It is important then that children are guided and supported by a educator being ‘in touch’ with their needs and who themselves is able to regulate their own emotions. The way an educator responds to the needs of children is the most significant contributor to them developing the capacity to self-regulate in a children’s setting. It is also depends on whether a child feels they belong and so are comfortable with their relationships and the environment is familiar.

“Self-regulation brings together the nature versus nature argument. It demonstrates that both are important in children’s development.

“Though all children have the ability to develop self-regulation, to do this they must experience supportive envirnment.”

“Children need the guidance and support of trusted adults who understand their needs and help them develop alternative strategies to regulate their emotions.”

“In children’s settings educators understnading that each child will react diffrently in similar situations supports this development.

“Play-based learning experiences provide the opportunlilty for children to develop and maintain optimal regulation particularly in the social envirnment provided in Early Learning environment.

“Children are more likely to tire quickly (low energy) and find it difficult to take an interest or engage in play and certainly not sustain attention or focus.”

“Knowledge of self-regulation provides an foundation to guide educators to respond in a way that can help children develop the ability to regualte themselves.”

“The Learning Frameworks acknowledge self-regulation as an important contributor to the elements, principles and outcomes for children.”

This week we had lots of experiences related to establish within our precious children focusing on developing self-regulation strategies and positive dispositions in our Early Learning Center.

  • Using physical activity and/or relaxation exercises including yoga and music for children to help them regulate their arousal state (up or down). Children that need activity to regulate their emotions).
  • Providing a range of ‘self-regulating’ experiences and sensory materials such as playdough, sand, soft toys, coloured different shaped/ sized pasta and rice.
  • Responding consistently and sensitively to help calm and soothe anxious, unsettled, frustrated or stressed children.
  • Fostering secure attachment relationships that provide sensitive and consistent emotional support that responds to children’s individual sensitivities and temperaments.

Some children had a good practice with mark making with friends. some choose to made an amazing art creation with different coloured and shaped bottle lids. Some children finished their puzzles. Learning Intention:2

Learning Intention: To support children’s understanding of the importance of sun safety and embedding consistent daily sun safe practices across our team and learning environment.

Why: –

  • Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing – (Early Years Learning Framework, Learning outcome – 3).
  • Children show an increasing awareness of healthy lifestyles.
  • Children show increasing independence and competence in personal hygiene, care and safety for themselves and others.
  • Explaining the time of the days that important for sun protection.
  • Showing them the tools, they need to protect their skins in the environment.
  • Introducing Sun Smart Protection steps.
  • Encouraging children to drink water.

ILP’s: All Children.

Everybody needs some sun exposure to produce vitamin D (which helps calcium absorption for stronger and healthier bones). But unprotected exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause damage to the skin, eyes, and immune system. It can. There are other contributing factors such as heredity and environment. But sunburn and excessive UV light exposure do damage the skin. This damage can lead to skin reaction or premature skin aging (photoaging).

Sunscreens protect the skin against sunburns and play an important role in blocking the penetration of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. But no sunscreen product blocks UV radiation 100%. A sunscreen protects from sunburn and minimizes suntan by absorbing or reflecting UV rays. Using sunscreens correctly is important in protecting the skin.

Educator talk everyday in our grouptime about our daily routine with visual cards. Educator teaching children about calender including days of the week, month, date, year and current weather conditions. We also discuss in our daily group time about green choices and red choices.

Learning Intention 3:
Sacred symbols are special and important.

Why?
Doctrinal Insights from the Catholic Tradition that support this Enduring Understanding include:
Sacred symbols remind us that God is close to us, and with us.
• In my Catholic learning environment, I can see many sacred symbols.
o Candle flames remind us that God is with us.
o The Bible reminds us of God’s love for us through special stories.
o The Cross reminds us of Jesus.
o Water is used for special blessings
• Sacred symbols are used in my school/ELC and in church celebrations, prayer and liturgy. (CCC1145)
Other faith traditions also have sacred symbols

ILP’s: All Children.

The Sign of the Cross is a prayer to God.

The Sign of the Cross is a prayer with actions and words.
The words remind us that God is called Father, Son and Holy Spirit. T
he actions represent the symbol of the Cross, and that prayer involves our head, heart and body.

God has established prayer as a means for us to communicate with him. Through prayer, we can praise God, ask for forgiveness, thank God for all he’s done, and let our requests be made known to him. Prayer allows us to open our hearts to God and let him know our innermost thoughts and desires.

Now prayer is a one part of our daily routine. Most of the children now learn our prayer routine and follow all rules during that time. Children enjoyed very much to blow candles one by one.
