Holy Family Catholic School Early Learning Blog- (LDC- 3 years) Term 2- Week 3 /2025

Nina Marni beautiful little learners and their wonderful families. Welcome to our weekly blog.

Learning intention 1

To provide opportunities for children to make new discoveries about and deepen their appreciation of all Jesus’s living beings.

Why?
As part of the Catholic Ethos, we aim to support children to develop a love, respect and appreciation for all of Jesus’s creations. Living beings also provide a valuable outlet for children to enquire about and research.

This week children ventured on their community walks to make new discoveries and deepen their appreciation for all god’s living beings. The MUDLA , the vegetable patch and the fruit patch were some learning stations where the children were able to explore and discover fresh produce along with some living beings that help fertilise our fresh produce.

Children discovered a little insect who had lost its way wondering off onto the footpath. A ripe tomato which had fallen off its tree helped the insect revive with a bit of extra nutrient. The children and their teacher spoke about god’s beautiful creation where all living beings are provided with adequate space for their development, and how they are created with lots of love and care. All living beings are inclusive and valuable in their little communities. This little living being which the children discovered this week and all the other living beings in the MUDLA have provided children with valuable outlets of discovery , enquiry and research.

Children’s enquiry : Where do they live ? , where is their home? , What do they eat ? How many legs do they have? can they see us? Do they have a nose? Do they have ears? (Enquiry based on child’s voice will extend and gravitate to the following week )

Enquiry in to god’s living beings we see children looking and touching foliage. Plants , leaves and flowers are all part of god’s amazing creation which connects the pieces of the puzzle of how god created the world. Plants , leaves and flowers are living and breathing beings which provide us humans and insects with many nutrients.

Childs voice : why are trees so tall? why are their leaves so sharp? why do the leaves fall to the floor? why and how do the leaves change colour? the children stoped to wonder? ( catholic identity love and respect for all god’s living beings.)

The Sign of the Cross is a prayer to God.

Doctrinal and Content Elaborations:

Doctrinal Insights from the Catholic Tradition that support this Enduring Understanding include:
The Sign of the Cross is a prayer with actions and words.
The words remind us that God is called Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The actions represent the symbol of the Cross, and that prayer involves our head, heart and body.

” George looks for God” was the picture book our little learners took to reading this week. This book was chosen as a reader for our group times and through out our prayer times leading up to a question from one of our little learners, as to ” Who is baby Jesus?

This reader will continue to be used/ read to our little people for the next fortnight with enquires and wonders to follow within our prayer time and group times.

Children have used their prayer time to pray for their families their pets and their sweet delicacies (lollies), thanking Jesus for their bountiful. The Sacred symbols the candle and the cross are utilised by the children for the start and end of their prayers.
