Nina Marni wonderful little learners and their beautiful families. Welcome to our weekly blog.

Learning Intention: 1 To continue to develop children’s cutting and pasting skills using a range of natural and “human-made” materials. (Seasonal changes are an ideal outlet for children to express ideas, thoughts and wonder’s?) Why? Cutting and pasting activities for children have many benefits. For example, cutting and pasting can help the development of fine motor skills. They can cut images, shapes and drawings and paste them. Crafting images (LP: IP, OC, MS, AL, EP, ET, JV, KO, ZW, KB). Cutting and pasting activities can also be used as creative channels for children’s self-expression.Cutting and pasting is an important first skill to master for children to then be able to design, ideate and successfully create artwork and objects.Cutting and pasting is a necessary skill for many preschool-based activities which will support children for preparedness for school. |
We’re continually looking for meaningful ways to support children’s development through hands-on, creative experiences. One of the key fine motor skills we focus on this fortnight is cutting and pasting—an essential foundation for handwriting, sensory, exploration, self-care tasks, and independent creativity.
To nurture this skill, we offer children a rich variety of materials to explore, drawn from both the natural world and human-made environments. This includes everything from leaves, twigs, and flower petals to recycled papers, cardboard, textiles, and magazine clippings.

Learning Intention 2: Sacred symbols are special and important. Why? Doctrinal Insights from the Catholic Tradition that support this Enduring Understanding include:Sacred symbols remind us that God is close to us, and with us. In my Catholic learning environment, I can see many sacred symbols. Candle flames remind us that God is with us. The Bible reminds us of God’s love for us through special stories. The Cross reminds us of Jesus. Water is used for special blessingsSacred symbols are used in my school/ELC and in church celebrations, prayer and liturgy. (CCC1145)Other faith traditions also have sacred symbols The Sign of the Cross is a prayer to God. Doctrinal and Content Elaborations:Doctrinal Insights from the Catholic Tradition that support this Enduring Understanding include: The Sign of the Cross is a prayer with actions and words. The words remind us that God is called Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The actions represent the symbol of the Cross, and that prayer involves our head, heart and body. |
Each morning, throughout this week we begin our day with a quiet moment of prayer, gathering together around the cross. This gentle routine helps children feel a sense of peace, belonging, and spiritual connection. Through simple prayers and reflection, we foster values such as gratitude, kindness, and respect—creating a calm and a centred start to our learning day.

Story time /interactive group time within our learning space.
Group time is a cherished part of our day, and sharing picture books together creates a warm, inclusive space for learning. Through carefully chosen stories, children develop language, and listening skills while exploring emotions, ideas, and the world around them. Picture books also invite rich conversations, spark imagination, and build a love of reading that supports lifelong learning.

Community walks around our school’s shared spaces, the playground , the log park, the fruit and vegetable patch , the MUDLA and the oval to engage in a game of soccer. Children have been exploring these shared spaces and have had many enjoyable interactions with their peers , nature and all the living beings in the MUDLA.
As the children make their way to our early learning entrance, they often pause to walk and balance on the rocks along the path. What may seem like a simple routine is actually a rich learning experience—building coordination, core strength, and confidence with each careful step. These everyday moments reflect the value of outdoor exploration and how the environment naturally supports each child’s physical development and risk-taking in a safe, engaging way.

Specks of gold for this week , contain our beautiful and amazing transition visits to Preschool , building friendships with peers , exploring colours and paints , listening to stories during group time, extending on our fine motor skills, visits to our pretend hospital , enjoying morning tea with our teachers and peers, outdoor and indoor constructive play and some beautiful dancing to sum up this week’s amazing learning.
