Niina Marni lovely learners and their beautiful families. Welcome to our weekly blog.
Learning Intention 1:
To know who Jesus is and understand that Jesus was part of a loving family
To understand that all beings including Jesus, are God’s creation
Why? Doctrinal Insights from the Catholic Tradition that support this Enduring Understanding include:
Jesus was part of a family with Mary and Joseph who loved and cared for Jesus.
This family is called the Holy Family.
Families share love and forgiveness.
We all all part of God’s creation

Learning Intention 2:
To support children’s wellbeing as they transition to school in Term 3
Why?
The importance of a positive transition to school experience has been consistently emphasised in research around the world.
As children approach the transition to school they may be experiencing certain feelings such as fear, uncertainty and nervousness. Supporting children in identifying their various emotions and feelings, and discussing about them equips children to feel safe, supported and valued.
It has been wonderful to see how positive the transition visits to the school have been for the children. In preparation of going to school next term, we have been exploring various feelings that we might experience and how best to navigate them.
SP – sad
JK – angry
JN – angry
YG – shy
HM – emotional
AP – scared
HW – nervous
RW – silly
We read the book ‘When I’m Feeling Angry’ and discussed various situations that may make us angry. We also discussed that it is not wrong to feel angry but hurting others when we are angry, is. We then discussed strategies as to how we can calm ourselves down and make thumbs up choices even when we are angry.
What makes you angry?
HM – when mummy doesn’t let me have my toys
RW – when someone hurts me
YG – my mum – not letting me play
JN – when my sister hits me
HW – when someone takes something off me
JK – when my brother hurts me
AB – when my brother hurts me
What can we do to calm down when we are angry?
JN – stay in our own space
RW – go in our room
HM – play on the swings
SP – cry
JK – take deep breaths
RW – hug someone

Literacy and numeracy intentions
To encourage creativity, language development, problem-solving and self-expression by engaging with an insect small world and dramatic play set up (baby nursery)
To develop number sense by understanding the concept of subitising (using dice)
Our little learners have been very busy caring for the babies; feeding them, bathing them, putting them to sleep and preparing food for them. This experience has enabled them to take turns, share the resources, and also develop their language skills.

Inquiry – Insects
The children have been busy collecting more millipedes, beetles, worms and crickets in little containers and observing them. This week they have been engaged in creating ladybug crafts and learning the body parts of ladybugs. Children recall that ladybugs have 6 legs, 2 antennas, eyes, a head and wings after engaging with the craft activity. They also enjoyed learning new information from non-fiction books about insects and playing at the insect small world table set up.
