Nina Marni wonderfull children and families.
Welcome to our end of term 2 Blog !
Learning Intention 1: To continue to develop children’s cutting and pasting skills (using pictures that are connected to our inquiry)
Why :
Cutting and pasting activities for children have many benefits including the development of fine motor skills. They can cut images, shapes and drawings and paste them onto paper in an orderly manner. Cutting practice enhances the ability of fingers to work together and move independently, promoting better dexterity. Cutting and pasting is an important first skill to master in order for children to then be able to design, ideate and successfully create artwork and objects.Cutting requires children to coordinate their hand movements with what their eyes see, which is a fundamental skill for various tasks, including writing and drawingCutting and pasting is a necessary skill for many school based activities and will support school preparedness for children.
ILPs – All children

Learning Intention 2:To know who Jesus is and understand that Jesus was part of a loving family To understand that all beings including Jesus, are God’s creationWhy? Doctrinal Insights from the Catholic Tradition that support this Enduring Understanding include:Jesus was part of a family with Mary and Joseph who loved and cared for Jesus. This family is called the Holy Family.Families share love and forgiveness. We all all part of God’s creation

Inquiry Project – Insects – Children have shown a great interest in insects that they have seen in the outdoor environment. Children have been collecting millipedes, crickets and ants in various containers and observing them (BC, LW, HW, HoM, HaM, SP, YG, JN, JL, LF)
This week, children will be exploring the life cycle of a butterfly through non-fiction books, videos and art and craft activities and Literacy :
To encourage language development, creativity and self-expression by engaging with props and books related to the life cycle of butterflies To help children become familiar with rhyming words
Why? Children have shown a great interest in caterpillar and how they turn into butterflies; they have been inquiring about it and role-playingLiteracy incorporates a range of modes of communication including music, movement, dance, storytelling, visual arts, media and drama, as well as talking, signing, reading and writing.Learning about life cycles is important for preschoolers because it fosters an understanding of growth, change, and the natural world, while also developing foundational skills in science, language, and critical thinkingEngaging with a story table provides a hands-on, engaging way for children to explore stories, fostering creativity, imagination, and a deeper understanding of narrative structureIt encourages social skills like sharing, cooperation, and turn-taking, especially when playing in groups
ILPs – WG, SoP, SeP

Numeracy
To be able to form insects using loose parts ILPs – Children transitioning to school
Why? The development of number understandings is one of the most important aspects of mathematics in early childhood because early number understandings assist children in learning more complex mathematical ideasCreating insects with loose parts in math activities provides a fun, hands-on way for young children to explore mathematical concepts like counting, sorting, patterns, and spatial reasoning. Children can count the legs, wings, or segments of their insect creations. They can use different colored loose parts to represent numbers, like using 6 buttons for the legs of a ladybug
