Learning Intention 2: To support children’s wellbeing as they transition to school in Term 3
Why:As children approach the transition to school they may be experiencing certain feelings such as fear, uncertainty and nervousness.Supporting children in identifying their various emotions and feelings, and discussing about them equips children to feel safe, supported and valuedBeing aware of children’s developmental milestones, particularly emotional and social development, helps educators understand what to expect at different ages and stages in children’s lives.The importance of a positive transition to school experience has been consistently emphasised in research around the world

Literacy and numeracy intentionsLiteracy
To encourage creativity, language development, problem-solving and self-expression by engaging with a story table (Meg at Sea) – especially WG + most othersTo encourage self expression through various mediums of visual arts, especially painting (continuing from the previous week) – MP, AM, AH, RG, IGTo understand that each word can be broken down to small chunks (Syllables) – clapping/ stomping feet
Why? Children have shown a great interest in painting Most children have enjoyed listening to the Meg and Mog stories during relaxation timesLiteracy is the capacity, confidence and disposition to use language in all its forms.Literacy incorporates a range of modes of communication including music, movement, dance, storytelling, visual arts, media and drama, as well as talking, signing, reading and writing.Engaging in story tables enable children to develop their communication skills, imagination and creativityEncourages social skills like sharing, cooperation, and turn-taking, especially when playing in groupsEngaging in visual arts experiences provides a platform for children to express their creativity, imagination, thoughts and wonderings

Why?Children have shown interest in rolling the dice and finding out what number they might getSubitising helps children connect numbers to actual quantities, making them understand what a number representSubitising allows children to see how numbers are composed of smaller parts, which is essential for understanding number combinations and later, fractionsILPs – All Children

Inquiry Project – Insects
Children have shown a great interest in insects that they have seen in the outdoor environment. Children have been collecting millipedes, crickets and ants in various containers and observing them (BC, LW, HW, HoM, HaM, SP, YG, JN, JL, LF)
Children will be exploring butterflies through non-fiction books and art and craft activities
