Long Day Care Learning Reflection, Term 1, week 4

Book Making

Our young learners loved the idea that – People make books and they can too!

Reading picture books everyday with children is one of the regular activities in our Long Day Care Room. The goal is to build a connection to picture books – inspired by the training with Lisa Burman.

Children display genuine interest in reading books and thinking about the stories. We co-constructed a story table based on the book ‘Oh Dear!’ written by Rod Campbell. Children listened to the story, looked at the illustration to identify different farm animals. They explored the basket of animal figurines and picked the ones mentioned in the book!

Children were excited to view themselves as authors. With the support of the educators, children thought about their own books and the stories.

Learning Intention 1:

To foster children’s emerging social development, relevant to their developmental stage.

Learning Intention 2:

To support children’s engagement, development and self-regulation through strengthening their sensory processing capabilities.

We love to play together in our Long Day Care room!

Cooperative play supports children develop their understanding about their world, language and social skills. They learn to recognize and respond to others’ feelings, share and take turn, show affection, resolve conflicts and adhere to the rules.

Playing with play dough, herbs and tools is one of the best ways to enjoy the time with friends and educators.

‘What are you making with your play doh?’

Cooper – I am making cupcake.

Elijah –  Cookies.

Sofia – I am making cake.

Niya –  Cake.

Volcano Experiment

We were so excited to see the volcano experiment!

Elijah – Its fizzy

Bailey – It’s bubbly, floor is lava

Children enjoy their rest and quiet time by doing quiet activities. They choose from the provided provocations, sometimes they choose resources by themselves.

It is amazing to watch children using their imagination and creating their own play.

Community walk, going to MUDLA , attending assembly make our day more exciting!
