Dear Families, Welcome to our Week 7 learning reflection.
We all are so excited with the news of having our classroom pet! Getting the aquarium ready and predicting about the possible pet in there was the talk of the week!
We did some brain storming and children came up with so many options and ideas. Seeing the aquarium they showed genuine interest to know about the water creatures/sea animals.
It looks like a possible Inquiry Project for our young learners.
Learning Intention:
To deepen our mark making provocations and ‘Book Making’ understanding to represent children’s ideas.
Based on our discussion, brainstorming regarding classroom pet we explored water creatures. It is amazing to see how children display their existing knowledge, and their interest and curiosity for the unknown. They happily identified all the creatures on flash cards with a little support of the educator. They chose and drew sea creatures. We can definitely build on that and extend the experience to book making.
Cooper: I am drawing starfish, puffer fish
Elijah: Sea snake
Hannah: Sea snake
Outdoor fun time.
Children always come up with original ideas about creating their own play! Bike riding felt more exciting while riding around the table! Children were mindful about riding carefully, keeping their own safety and others. They kept their distance and enjoyed the riding to the fullest with friends. When the educator talked about the traffic light/traffic signals, they asked several questions. If there is any blue light or other colours in traffic light. They understood the importance and purpose of the signals. They enjoyed role playing by giving the signals with explanation, It’s red, stop.
Learning Intention:
To nurture each child’s identity through connecting with and learning about their culture and community.
We are so blessed to have new friends in our long day care room. Home corner seemed to be the best place to have a cup of coffee and talk about ourselves. Children are eager learners and effective communicators.
Balance walking at the yard on different types of materials is still a favourite activity among children.
Hot weather made the water and ice play more enjoyable this week.
Extension of Learning:
- Inquiry project – guided by children’s interest.
- Mark making and book making (draw things on purpose)
- Picture book reading (regular activity, building connection with picture books)
- Co-constructing traffic lights with recycled items and use it for outdoor play, bike riding.
- Harmony week activity – How to say ‘Hello’ in different languages (Introduce in Group time)
