Long day Care Learning reflection, term 1 , week 10

Dear families, welcome to Long day Care Learning reflection, week 10.

It has been a wonderfully engaging week. Our young learners participated in so many different types of experiences which made our days joyous and full of excitement.

We are almost at the end of our term. We feel incredibly proud of our young learners for how they have developed their sense of belonging and confidence. Everyday they participate and contribute in their learning effortlessly.

Our regular group time included reading Bible, and discussing with children about Easter. Children listened attentively.

We read books written by Rod Campbell as an introduction to Author study.

Children loved the Egg Hunt activity. Their excitement was so much visible  throughout the experience. They searched every possible place to find the eggs!

Children were surprised to see a huge egg shape on the window! They decorated the egg happily with the support of the educator.

They loved to decorate their own piece of art!

Making eggs with purple play dough!

Niya: Look, I made egg.

Learning Intention 1:

To encourage children’s expression of ideas through collaborative arts-making experiences in Visual Arts.

Collaborative arts making experiences support children to socialise and collaborate. They find the opportunities to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas with others. The experiences also facilitate environment in developing their language and communication skills and better interaction with others.

This week, children used a variety of tools and materials to use in their art experiences. Leaves, sticks, felt  sheets along with the regular pencils, fine tip pens, crayons and paint brushes. They also created their art work in different positions, for example, felt sheets arranged on the side of the fence.

Sofia: I did orange and blue and green . My daddy and my mummy and my brother.

They used sprigs of rosemary as a tool/paint brush in their painting experiences.

Creating art work with crayons.

Evie: I am making a rainbow.

Learning Intention 2:

To enhance children’s dispositions for learning through providing materials and experiences that provoke inquiry.

Inquiry  based approaches allow children to investigate, design, imagine and explore, therefore developing curiosity, resilience, and optimism.

During their egg hunt, children found a bug at the yard. They showed curiosity and interest to see, hold and know about the bug. We talked about safety for both the children and the bug as we do not want to be bitten or hurt that tiny little bug. So, children watched it walking to the grass area and we talked about finding books and videos on bugs and know about them.

Sensory provocation is one of our everyday experience. Children combine their imagination and provided materials to create their own play.

Oliver: William is cooking with me.

Outdoor balance walking is always a favourite one for the children.

In group time we showed children small flash cards which contains our regular activity and needs. It is to establish two way communication. Children are encouraged to pick cards from the board to communicate, if they like. Such as, they can pick the picture for ‘ Drink’ or ‘Blocks’ to communicate with us. To tell us that they want water or play with blocks.

Extension of Learning:

  • Continue encouraging children to use the cards on the board. To express their emotion, needs and interest. To support their abilities to request objects, make choices and ask questions.
  • Explore the world of ‘Bugs’ – Inquiry provocations.
  • Continue ‘Author Study’
