Nina Marni, Long Day Care A children and families, welcome to Term 3, week 1 learning reflection.
It is amazing to see children showcasing their strong sense of identity and belonging, being engaged and involved in meaningful learning experiences and relationships throughout the day.
We are so blessed to welcome Mrs. Lousie to join our community at Holy Family Early Years.
Learning Intention 1:
To refine and establish the daily routine that supports consistency and predictability for children and educators yet remains responsive to the needs of the community.
Why:
- The establishment of predictable routines supports children to understand what to expect in their day and provides a sense of comfort and supports the development of resilience as children are aware of the events in their day which in turn contributes to children’s ability to self-regulate.
- When educators create environments in which children experience mutually enjoyable, caring, and respectful relationships with people and the environment, children respond accordingly.
- When children participate collaboratively in everyday routines, events and experiences and have opportunities to contribute to decisions, they learn to live interdependently.
- Predictability and consistency are important for children as it provides them with a sense of safety and understanding about what will happen next in their day. It is also important that educators make judgements in the moment that will best support the wellbeing of all.
- Collaborative room agreements made between children and educators ensure children feel heard and safe within their environments.
Learning Intention 2:
To support children’s understanding and development of a growth mindset, especially when faced with challenges.
Why:
- According to Carol Dweck, Growth Mindset researcher, “The view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life”.
- With a growth mindset, students continually work to improve their skills, leading to greater growth, competence, and confidence.
- A growth mindset supports children’s self-esteem, enables them to learn new skills, and helps them to accept new challenges and see new opportunities.
- Supports the development of agency.
- To demonstrate trust and confidence.
- Supporting children to co-operate and work collaboratively with others.
- Maintaining high expectations of each child’s capabilities.
- Being aware of children’s developmental milestones, particularly emotional and social development, helps educators understand what to expect at different ages and stages in children’s lives.
Small group experiences always provide opportunities to co-operate and work collaboratively with others.
Trajectories:
- Refine and re-establish the daily routine.
- Community visits.
- Supporting children to co-operate and work collaboratively with others.
