Niina Marni preschool children and families and welcome to the end of week 7!
Learning Intention 1
Learning Intention:
To nurture each child’s wellbeing as they begin their progression to reception in Term 3.
Why:
- As children approach the transition to school they may be experiencing certain feelings such as fear, uncertainty and nervousness.
- Being aware of children’s developmental milestones, particularly emotional and social development, helps educators understand what to expect at different ages and stages in children’s lives.
- The importance of a positive transition to school experience has been consistently emphasised in research around the world.
- A large body of evidence suggests a successful transition helps improve children’s educational and social outcomes.
ILP’S: AK, AF, AE, AS, BM, EM, F, FT, HP, JL, KJ, LB, LF, MG, OA, OW, RR, SH, SC, TO, YD, WL,
We’re not quite sure where the time went but we suddenly only have three weeks left of the term and then we have 23 children moving on to their next learning journey at school!
This week the children have engaged in discussions about all of the ways school might look and feel a bit different from preschool. Some of the ideas were:
Ewan: If you’re naughty they’ll say you can’t go there anymore
Krishav: If you do something bad you have to sit in the corner
Anisa: You have money for food
Liam: You can go to the playground!
Owen: You make new friends
As you can imagine, there are some nerves about starting this next journey however, as the conversation went on, Laura reassured them of their concerns and they spoke about safe places in the school, safe people, what the bell means, how the classroom will look and so on.
They also gave their ideas about what they would like to see in their new classroom! The list they came up with was:
- Marble run
- Books
- Lego
- Play dough
- A pet
- Painting
- Couches
- Blocks
- Train tracks
They have also been engaging in reading some children’s books that address some of the concerns they had and help to prepare them emotionally for what will come next.
REMINDER: The preschool celebration of learning liturgy will be on Wednesday 28th June in Curiosity from 4.30pm-5.30pm. Please RSVP your attendance to either Laura.yeend@holyfamily.catholic.edu.au or Elle.baker@holyfamily.catholic.edu.au

Learning Intention 2
To develop and embed sustainable practices as community, fostering a love and appreciation for God’s world
WHY
- as part of the catholic ethos we aim to support children to develop a love, respect and appreciation for all of God’s creations.
- Practicing sustainability empowers children to construct knowledge, explore values and develop an appreciation of the environment. This lays foundations for an environmentally responsible adulthood
- Through hands on experiences and relevant educator pedagogies, children can explore and learn about their local contexts and environmental issues,
- Children can develop the creativity and critical thinking skills necessary to make informed decisions for change, improving the quality of their lives and those of future generations.
- Pre-school children have shows an interest in caring for living beings (worms and millipedes) they have also shown engagement and enjoyment in picking up rubbish and earth day discussions.
ILP’S: ALL

This week, Elle set up new bins for the children and was more intentional about discussing the different uses and how engaging in these practices helps our planet and is more sustainable.
The children have been continuing to go out to the school with their bins and tongs to pick up rubbish and working off of their observation last week about food waste they were able to sort the rubbish into the correct bins.

Bookmaking
Spotlight Term 2: Illustrators draw things on purpose
ILP’S: AG, IP, JD, AA, MG, RM, ZL

Light exploration
This week the children made their own shadow puppets and used them in the light room to explore the many different ways we can create shadows!
Owen and Livia discovered that we can even use our Lego creations to create shadows and tell a story!

Numeracy explorations

Trajectories:
- Work on creating a character to write stories about as a whole group
- Working towards having a character on each page to tell a story
- Create a paper recycling bin in the room to be more sustainable and use this as an opportunity to talk to the children about sustainable ways to engage in mark making and book making
- Increase school visits especially for the children transitioning in term 3
