Xin Chao (Hello) Preschool Families,

Inquiry Project: Our Natural World
We have well and truely discovered a pathway for our inquiry, leading towards gardens and food production. We were very exited this week to welcome some Holy Family students into our space, bringing with them an asosrtment of vegetable harvested from the school gardens. this provoked our wonderings us to what the vegetables could be used for, and if we could plant our own vegetables or fruits to use in our daily menu.
Marlee/Ivy: dirt
Jack: bark chips
Thomas: rocks
Ajak: seed
McKayla: I like to make a garden
Livij: then we can pick them and eat them
Riley: It will crack
William: eggs

In preschool, we honour each child’s natural curiosity and creativity through play provocations. Our mini garden provocation provoked hand on opporutnity for children to deepen their connection to natural beings and build their understandings of gardens.

Our resin insect investigations responded to children’s interest last week about what makes something living, and provided opportunity for us to think deeper about the mini beasts that continue to fascinate us each day.

Our community visit to the school oval opened up some wonderful discoveries, as we spent time taking in our natural world, embracing all of our senses. We noticed that we can hear, smell and touch natural elements and some of our learners were so fascinated that they recored these observations.

To nurture each child’s wellbeing as they start their journey in preschool and re-connect as a community after the holiday period |
After discussions around how we are unique and special, children were invited to create their own self-portrait. We enjoyed watching children engage deeply with this activity, showing such creativity and uniqueness in their end products. We look forward to displaying these portraits proudly in our space!

Educator facilitated small group experiences have been very meaningful this term. As children participated in calming experiences such as threading and weaving and sensory experiments we are able to connect, respond and share joy.

We have been supporting children to adjust to our group time expectations. We use ‘positive primers’ to capture the interests as well as to share laughter together. Some of our favourites include:
‘tooth ta’ and Bananas and Meatballs’
