Habari (Hello) Preschool Families, welcome to our week 4 Blog
What an exciting a interesting week we have had undertaking many science
Experiments. We practiced the skills or predicting, observing and evaluating as we endeavoured on each experiment and learnt new topic specific language (such as condensation, solution and dissolve)
Volcano Experiment
Children shared their excitement and prior knowledge around this experiment and voiced their predictions throughout. We focussed on the concept of ‘procedure’ and ‘materials’

Kite Flying
We explore the concept of movement with the element of air. Children shared their ideas about what kites need to fly:
Aria: Some wind
Thomas: Sun and wind
Cooper: the string will help it fly

Dissolve Experiment
Predictions:Livi: it will disolve (flour)
Asher: it sinks (rocks)
Austin: that won’t disolve (rocks)
Noticings:
Emmy: it’s in the cup
Thomas: it’s making a tornado
Evaluations:
Jack: dissolving makes it invisible

What we loved the most about this week was the excitement and curiosity shared by educators and children. We inquired and made new discoveries through our co-constructive learning.
Inquiry
Another exciting moment was shared this week as we notice that some of our seed were starting to sprout! this created some very meaningful dialogue around why some seeds were growing while others weren’t. We determined that perhaps some of our seeds weren’t getting enough sunlight, so we moved them.

Numeracy
We explored shape and perimeter this week using loose parts and provocations.

Literacy/Book making
With many new children joining us this term, we have decided to rebuild our love and enjoyment of books. Reading nooks have been set up in our indoor and outdoor spaces to invite children to engage with books in inviting and calm spaces. We read one of our favourites- Pig the Pug to encourage children to discover one of the purposes of books- to entertain.

Our Story table for the week……

Wellbeing and Belonging
This week we held many discussions arounnd wellbeing and safety. We discussed different feelings and actions to take when such feelings arise. Throughout the week children were invited to engage in partner/small group games to create a deeper sense of belonging and foster their social skills. This proved to be a real hit and a wonderfull opportunity to build relationships and practices skills such as negotiation and turn-taking.

Trajectories
- To continue our group/partner games
- To continue to foster a love and enjoyment of books (book week celebrations)
- start documenting the change of our seeds
- refer to our initial research about vegetable gardens- begin planning our garden
- harvesting the vegetable garden
