Preschool Learning Reflection – Term 4, Week 8, 2023

Niina marni preschool children and families and welcome to the end of week 9!  We have only a week until the school holidays and only one more week with the children transitioning to reception in 2024.

Learning Intention:

To support children’s emotional wellbeing as they begin their transition process for reception in 2024, as well as children who will be joining preschool in the new year.

Why?

  • As children approach the transition to school they may be experiencing certain feelings such as fear, uncertainty and nervousness.
  • Being aware of children’s developmental milestones, particularly emotional and social development, helps educators understand what to expect at different ages and stages in children’s lives.
  • The importance of a positive transition to school experience has been consistently emphasised in research around the world.
  • A large body of evidence suggests a successful transition helps improve children’s educational and social outcomes.

We hosted our very special “Celebration of Learning” event on Thursday in our Curiosity Building.  We are truly blessed to be able to support the children in their learning and progress throughout the year.It was a joyful celebration of their growth and achievements, and it’s always heartwarming to see how proud they are of themselves. It was definitely a memorable moment for all of us.

Learning Intention:
To deepen our understanding of the advent season and celebrate the cultural tradition of Christmas

Why

  • throughout each year we celebrate many cultural traditions of our families to nurture each child’s identity and promote a sense of belonging
  • Liturgical advent is a joyous season of preparation. The word itself actually derives from the Latin word meaning “coming.” During these four weeks, we prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus, with prayer and mindfulness. Celebrating Advent is a meaningful way to prepare our hearts for Christmas
-Christmas is a time of celebration, which is meaningful to many children within our community

Children singing Christmas carols is absolutely delightful ! Their enthusiasm and innocence make the carols even more special. It brings a sense of joy and a wonderful way to celebrate the festive season. It’s such a heartwarming sight and sound to see those little ones spreading joy with their sweet voices.

Children were deeply engaged in making Christmas crafts everyday.

Literacy Intentions (our hopes for their learning)

  • General sound discrimination and rhyme awareness.
  • Matching Rhyming words orally.
  • Reading picture books regularly. Children will enjoy a joyful connection to picture books.
  • Continue using mark-making tools, such as crayons, textas, pencils, paint, chalk, sand (as they create texts during this process).
  • Children will build symbolic functioning, sharing something about the marks they have created.

Specks of Gold!
