Information for RCC Families
Hi all! I wanted to touch base about some things as we continue moving into term 1.
Specialist Days
Monday – P.E and Spanish (P.E UNIFORM)
Tuesday – Library
Friday – Music
Library
Library bags are to be kept at home during the week, this is too support the engagement with literature. Please have library bags returned by Monday or Tuesday for reborrowing.
Students will be invited to borrow 3 readers and 2 picture books each week. It is not expected that children are able to read these books at this stage. These books are being sent home to begin engaging in literature and laying the foundations for successful readers.
Some helpful tips for reading at home:
-Enjoying reading with your child at home, engaging in story times and storytelling
-Provide lots of encouragement to engage with book
-Ask questions about the story focusing on the illustrations (pictures) “what do you notice?”, “what do you think is going to happen?”
-Explore concepts of print – components of the front cover (author, title, illustration), reading a book front to back, the spine, reading text from left to right
Word Detectives
This week we are continuing building our phonemic letter understanding. We have learnt Ss, Aa, Tt, Pp, Ii, Nn – and will be exploring Mm, Dd, and Gg this week.
We have been very engaged in the activity ‘word detectives’. If you find the time and your child shows interest, please support them to find words that begin or have the sounds and letters that we are learning. They will be invited to share throughout the week.
Continue Supporting Independence
I am so impressed with the children’s independence in the morning routines and classroom engagement. Please encourage your child to complete these task independently – unpacking their bags, putting lunch box away, drink bottles in the tub, name sign in, and library bags.
Many Blessings,
Miss Cam
