Hello RCC children and families, welcome to our weekly blog!
In English, we focused on reviewing previously learnt graphemes/phonemes together with onset and rime patterns. Students learnt the heart words – for , have. They talked about what they know about the letter. They identified that sometimes letters may sound different, and that some letters look similar in both uppercase and lower case. Children are also practicing writing sentences with correct spacing, upper case letter for first letter of first word and a full stop.
In Book Making – the children were engaged in a discussion about what makes an information book. They also decided whether to make a narrative story book or an information book.
The following list represents the students who decided to create an information book and their chosen topics.
In Maths, the students worked on counting collections to 20.
In Religion, the students developed an understanding that the Bible is a sacred text in the Catholic Faith and explored its significance through storytelling and activities.
In Science, the students explored different types of materials in the environment and recorded their observations using illustrations.
Brain Break- Time to be a Super Hero !
Research has shown that standing in a superhero pose for 60 seconds each day can help increase self confidence. The students excitedly posed as their favourite super hero during their Brain Break time.
In health, the students developed the understanding of the functions of different parts of their body and how to take care of them with a focus on hygiene and self-care.
In HASS, the students drew a pictorial map of the playground in their Learning Journals as they observed, described and recorded the features of the place.
Notes:
- The students have three breaks for food each day. In the morning, they eat their fruits (referred to as ‘brain food’), followed by recess and lunch.
- Assembly on week 5 .
