Week 10 in REB

Dear Families,

We have shared such a wonderful Friday Funday, celebrating half a year of learning together.

Throughout this week we have finalised lots of concepts learnt throughout the term. This included:

-Adding text to our books

-Measurement

-brave spelling strategies

-Writing simple sentences

-Categorising and comparing

-Number sense

This Friday

Dear Families,

This Friday REB will be having a Friday Funday to celebrate the end of the term.

We will playing games on the Oval (weather permitting) and having a dance party.

In the afternoon in story time, we will be having pop corn and children are invited to bring in 1 soft teddy of their choice.

Also just a reminder- Students are invited to wear casual clothes on Friday!

Week 8 in REB

Hello REB families, welcome to our week 8 Blog.

 

This week in English we:

-Continued with our literacy stations where we engage with materials to deepen our skills in identify initial sounds, letter recognition and writing, and constructing sentences

-focussed on spacing between words in our interactive writing session

-explored creative ways Authors add text to their books and gave this a go in our own books

-played a ‘guess the letter’ game, deepening pour rhyming and initial sound skills

 

This week in Maths we introduced our new Unit on measurement which involved:

-comparing length and height and collecting data in our classroom and wider school environment

-learnt about how we can measure time and focussed on sequencing events and duration or activities.

 

In technologies and arts we:

-made the finishing touches to our houses and used them to re-tell the story ‘The Three little Pigs’

In Health we:

-discussed the concept of fair vs unfair and represented our thinking through drawings

 

 

 

Week 7 in REB

Hello REB families, welcome to our week 7 blog!

 

this week in English we:

-continued our literacy rotations, focussing on our heart words and segmenting sounds

-deepened our syllabification skills, using instruments

-practiced writing all the letters we have learnt so far

-Wrote a sentence and tried our best to leave spaces between words and use a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop at the end

-discovered creative ways to add text to our books and gave this a go ourselves

In maths we:

-explored what and how information for from the environment is collected and used by First Nations Australians to predict the weather. We used these skills to collect and represent data about the weather.

 

 

In Health we:

-discussed what it feels like to trust someone and how it is important to know who we trust in our own lives. We shared our thinking through drawings depicting our own trust networks

 

In Design and technologies we:

-use our designs developed last week to make our own house for the 3 little pigs. We thought about what the houses would need to ensure the wolf can’t get in.

 

 

 

In Religion we:

-focussed on Catholic symbols and what they mean. We also shared symbols from other religions as they may have special meaning to each of us.

 

REMINDERS/ANNOUNCMENTS

-Just a reminder to name all belongings. We have a jacket box near the door which is filling up quite quickly. Please have a look in case something belongs to you.

-Library is back to normal next week (Tuesday)

 

 

 

 

Week 6 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 6 Blog.

We were so lucky today to have our buddies come to share their robots with us. It was so inspiring to learn about the process of making the robots and we were very excited to have the opportunity to drive them.

This week in English we:

-participated in literacy rotations where we engaged with playful activities focussing on heart words, segmenting sounds and blending words

-built sentences together and wrote and illustrated them in our books

-revised the phonemes and graphemes we have learnt throughout the term

-applied our comprehension skills and re-told scenes from various books through writing and drawing

-Added words to our word wall

 

In Maths we:

-introduced a new unit on ‘data’

-we discussed how collecting data is useful in our lives and explored different ways to represent and summarise the data (in picture and T Graphs).

In Technologies we:

-Read the ‘Three Little Pigs’ and discussed how we could make a house to keep the pigs safe

-applied new understandings as we designed our own houses, taking into consideration materials and size.

In Science we:

-concluded our unit on movement and sorted items into the catgories of slide, roll and bounce

In Health we:

-discussed what Bullying is and how we can take action when we feel like It us occurring to ourselves or others. We represented out ideas through drawings.

In Hass we:

-documented (through drawings) celebrations that are important to us and our families. We shared our ideas with eachother and justifyied why these events are special to us.

Week 4 in REB

Today was a very special day for REB as we presented our first Assembly!

A lot of work and practice went into this special event and it was so beautiful seeing each child’s confidence on the stage. A very big thank thank you to our buddies from 6EB who not only helped us prepare for our assembly, but also ensured that that it all ran smoothly!

Other special learning that took place this week:

 

Hello REB families, welcome to the week 3 blog,

 

This week in English we:

-investigated the letters J and V. This involved ‘in and out’ word sorts, finding and writing words with these letters in books and matching games.

-engaged with a interactive writing workshop, where together we determine and construct a sentence together.

-Use ‘We’re going on a bear Hunt’ for our shared reading text.

-focused on how Mo Williams created emotion for his characters and gave this a go in our own books.

 

 

In Maths we:

-introduced a new unit: Number bonds. We participated in Maths rotations we applied the skills of addition and subtraction with collections up to 5.

 

In HASS we:

-Discussed family and origins and mad your own family trees.

 

In Science we:

-continued our inquiry into movement with a focus on movement that our bodies make. We represented our thinking through drawings.

 

In  Religion and Arts we continued to practice for Assembly!

 

REMINDERS/ANNOUNCEMENTS

-our Assembly is next Friday at 9:00am. All families are welcome to attend!

-you will find a new unit in your Try at Home packs. These will be updated fortnightly

 

 

 

 

 

Week 2 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 2 blog.

A speck of gold this week has been our discussions about our Mums and how special they are to us. I would like to wish you all a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday and hope that you are able to share some special time with your children.

 

In English this week we:

-drew upon our emerging reading skills and pieced together the Humpty Dumpty poem

-engaged with another interactive writing lesson. There has been so much progress with each child’s writing already, which is so impressive to see!

-investigated the letter W and found/wrote words that have this letter

-continued our MO Williams author study, and continued using crafting techniques from his books when editing our own.

In Maths we:

-focused on AABB and ABB patterns. We make a human pattern (a line) and used natural resources on the oval to show our understandings.

In HASS we: 

-discussed what a community is and how we each have many communities that we belong to. We worked together to categorise different people and occupations. Such as emergency services, or food production.

 

In Arts and Drama  we are very busy getting organised for our Assembly in week 4! This has involved:

-making props

-practicing our dance

-practicing our song

REMINDERS/COMMUNICATION:

-Our Assembly is on the 24th May at 9:00am

-Try at Home packs (with books) are to be returned each day. This is so we can add more things to the booklet and can send home any notes or art work.

-Holy Family are running a free Kickstart (AFL) program for studentsfrom 3:30 – 4:30 on Tuesdays. See flyer below for more details

Week 1 in REB

Hello REB Families and welcome back to term 2!

We wasted no time in re-connecting with each other after the break and diving into into some rich learning.

 

In Maths we:

-revisited number and shape

-introduced Pattern where we engaged with playful rotations creating AB and ABC patterns

 

In English we:

-Revisted Graphemes and phonemes that we have learnt so far

-engaged with and reconstructed the Rhyme ‘Humpty Dumpty’

-began writing sentences through interactive writing workshops

-began our book making spotlight: a Author Study on Mo Willams

 

In HASS we:

-discussed who and what is important to us and why and communicated our thinking through drawings

In Religion we:

-discussed other ways to pray and be present with God. We began learning the hymn “These hands”

 

In Arts we:

-Created puppets to re-tell the narrative ‘The Very Hungry Catepillar’

 

In Science we:

-Began our unit of ‘movement’. We experimented with slinkies, balls, cars and loose-parts and then shared our thinking and observations with each other about how they move.

 

 

REMINDERS and ANNOUNCEMENTS:

-Our Assembly will be in week 4 this term

-You will find a ‘try at home’ pack in your child’s bag next week. There are instructions included. Please ensure these packs are kept in their bags.

-Please remember to know your Childs belongings. Any jumpers or jackets without names will be placed on lockers each night.
